i would say a 20in or 22 inch slick will be good, why is your friend gonna drive it though?

How in the hell are you going to learn then? Seriously, if you give a **** what people think of your times you're NEVER going to run. Wanna know what it was like my first time being in my FWD honda at the strip? My last car was a notchback mustang with a 331 and a T76, it went pretty consistent low 10's @ 140 on BFG drag radials and a stick. My first pass in my honda? 22.43-ish @ 99 MPH. That's right. I went 22's. In a turbo honda making just over 350 WHP. Sure, it was a little bit embarassing, but you should be there to have fun and enjoy driving, not be all concerned what all the white trash that always hangs out at the strip and talks **** think about you and your car. That's like getting married and say "****, I've never done it before, I don't know how good I'm going to be, so I'll higher a giggolo to pull the mack on my wife because I MIGHT suck at it." The way I look at it, having the worst sex is better than watching the best sex

lol boosted92, i agree, who cares what people think! i would make fun of you more for not driving your car then driving it and running a bad time! the first time down the track i ran a disappointing 15.4.. i left immediately, which was a mistake, how about watch your friend drive his own car a few times and then go try it yourself it will be a lot more rewarding to tell people your car ran xx.xx and you were driving it

Agree... you need to be the one driving. My first trip to the track was in my buddies H22A EG coupe. He was running it for a while and then offered me to take it down.

First run was an 18.56 @ 93.35. The shifter fell out of gear on the launch and so I just put it in 2nd and went. The 60' was a 3.960 Next run out was a 14.328 @ 100.54 with a 2.342 60'.

Go get practice. You'll love it. Especially with slicks.

Practice, practice, practice. The more you drive your car the better you will become. I bought my car completely stock and went 15.102@91.59, all I have added throughout the year was a short ram and air filter and have went 14.95@93.34. I consistently get good reactions, usually under .100 and even took 2nd place at an NDRA event. The more seat time you can get the better the driver you will become. I wouldn't even let Jesus Christ himself drive my car. You should pilot your car, because that is YOUR car. Now go out there and get your hardearned timeslip.

You just described my first run at the track as well! I couldnt have been more nervous. I did a nice burnout to warmup then lined up against like a late 90s automatic cavalier. I had a mildly built GSR motor and had nitrous but i wasnt spraying right away. Just wanted to see what I could do. My shifter fell out of gear and i was just rollin. I slammed it second and needless to say i wasnt goin anywhere fast. My first run was an 18.63 @91mph with a 60' of 4.991 hahahha. by the end of the night i was runnin 13.5 @ 101 with 60's in the 1.9s on street tires. You will never learn if you dont get out there. And its an absolute blast when you start doin it every weekend. good luck bro!

i think he should have his friend drive the car a few times, just so he can see what it'll actually run. (since his friend has the track experience, and has ran on slicks)

but he should also run the car himself, and compare his times with his friends, so he can see where he needs to improve.

i wish someone else would drive my car, just to see where i stand as a driver.

I let my friend drive mine at the track after I did a run and posted a 14.76 @96.5mph. He posted a faster time and missed second gear. I was nervous as hell my first time. Caring about what other people think is where you are going wrong. I went out there to have fun and test my car out without having to worry about getting pulled over. Two runs later I posted a best of 14.3 @ 96.76 mph. I still have 60's in the 2.3's but I plan on going next year and practicing some more. Like everyone said, practice, practice, practice. It also helps to go with a few friends and joke around a bit before you run.
