detailing my engine bay
Is it safe for me to use engine degreaser then spray it down with high pressure water without covering anything on my engine bay. I have a 01 R. Some say cover alternator etc some say just spray it down. I have watch a few youtube videos and the outcome is great. I just dont want to risk anything. Suggestion would help Thanks!!
I've always sprayed my engine bay down with simple green (full strength), let it soak for a few min, agitated the bad spots with a few different soft bristle brushes that I buy from Walmart, and went to town with a garden hose.
I tried being cheap one time and used purple power on my prelude engine bay and it ate paint down to the factory grey primer, so I do not advise using anything other than simple green. If you are a bit leery, dilute it.
Also, the only prep work I did was removing my intake and plugging the throttle body with a towel.

You have to be careful with the electrical components. The big thing I've had people recommend was covering the distributor. The alternator on an Integra isn't exactly shielded from the elements. It's down low, behind the block. It gets wet.
One thing you could do is to d/c the battery until you're done under there.
Lots of shops use pressure washers in the engine bay. There was one time I didn't feel like detailing my car, but wanted some things done. I took it to a guy that claimed to be a "Professional detailer." He used a pressure washer under the hood and soaked one of the ballasts from my HID retrofit. When I said something to him about it, he comes back at me saying he didn't know I had a "Ghetto-rigged lighting system" under the hood and refused to pay for the ballast. That was an expensive lesson. Don't ever assume someone goes about something with the same care YOU would.
