Default Clay bar issue...weird.

I used Meguires clay bar kit about 4 or 5 times in the past, on various cars with great success.

Last weeked I cracked open a NEW clay bar and went to work on my 03' G35. I usually use Meguires quick detailer as a lubricant, this since I was out I used a mix of liquid wax, distilled water, and car wash soap. Right away I noticed something weird ~ instead of smoothly gliding over the paint, the clay bar would stick and smear on the paint. Even after generous amount of lubricant, the clay bar kept sticking and smearing itself onto the paint.

I eventually stopped and used a microfiber cloth to remove the caked on clay bar material.

So strange as this never happened before. The only thing I can think of is either my homemade quick detailer didnt react well to the clay bar OR maybe I let the clay bar sit around too long in my garage...it though it was unopended.

Any one experience this before? I want to go out and buy a new clay kit but I really dont want to go through this again.

New clay bars can be really, really sticky. Try running it under some hot water to mend it and soften it up a bit.

I would leave the wax out of your combo. Both plain water, and a water/car soap mixture have worked well for me in the past. But even then, I'm not sure it was your combo that made the clay mess up. If it was a meguiars clay bar you can always call and ask them, they have always been helpful to me.

I usually just keep my old empty quick detailer bottles, a little bit of carwash soap mixed with water is all I use for clay lube
