S600 Engine
Hello all: I'm new to this forum but not to S600 Honda's . I have rebuilt and/or restored4 conv.and 1 coupe over the past dozen years . I have the job of restoring a 66 conv in nice shape with a non original siamesed liner engine that I have just rebuilt and runs well on the test stand. The owner has
recently found the original 4 separate liner engine in restorable condition. He would like to have a matching serial number car. My question is ------Why did Honda switch to siamesed liners? Was it a cure for overheating ?
Is it worth the effort to have matching numbers? Thanks in advance for any and all advice. I'm in Ontario Canada not that that matters, just for interest.
Thanks again Oldspriteguy (as in Austin Healey)

Hey there Sir! No idea why the siamesed liners, but assume they are also stronger? Some of the folks on the Yahoo Just-S group would be sure to know though...
As to matching numbers, I would suggest not now. The Porsche scene used to be non-heavily matching number-centric, but has since changed into matching numbers freaks. Not sure S-cars will go the same route, but if you can it would not hurt for sure. At least in twenty years it might make a tangible difference. Just guesses of course. Neko.

Thanks, Kuroneko : I hadn't thought about barrel distortion but that would
explain why almost every single liner engine I've taken apart has scored
pistons. I guess we'll build it up as a low priority as time and parts permit.
Who know's ,maybe 20 years from now it'll be worth a gazillion $. I'll be 87 by then and most likely unable to drive! oldspriteguy
