Icon2 85 crx engine?

i thought that anything before 89 or 90 had an ew series engine but a friend told me the other day that there was an 85 crx for sale with a d series engine and it wasnt swapped. so i was just wondering if anyone could help me out.

d15a3 is same as EW. honda just changed to "d" series in 87 for some reason..

In the 1986 model year Honda made a sweeping change. All of their products got new electrical connectors that do not interface with 1985 and older products.

In that year they also changed the name of the "EW" series of engine to "D." Same engine, different name. The "EW" that got the name change to "D" share a few characteristics of the famous D-series engines of later years, but not many parts are interchangeable.

You can "make it fit," but it is not a "bolt in."

87 is different, not 86. my 86 Si has the "EW" Nomenclature.
