AWD Conversion ForumThis forum is to help with the recent advent of new AWD conversions. Got a question? Ask it here. Got an answer? Drop the knowledge here
I wanted to get a post going on here to warn people of some issues I personally had and issues I have seen from others using the Gear X Viscous Coupler, so you can at least do some additional research before making a purchase with Gear X.
Besides HT, I am on some Facebook Groups, one being Honda Acura AWD Conversions created by Josh Robbins. This is the same guy who goes by pirate garage or something like that who has done videos reviews for a bunch of products but ALOT for Gear X products.
One thing I noticed about this group is that if you have any negative reviews about Gear X the thread is automatically deleted. Besides having my own issues with Gear X, my particular problem was resolved with me getting refunded my money and returning their JUNK.
Anyways, I noticed a thread created on the AWD group page with a dude who had a Gear X failure with his viscous coupler leaking fluid and breaking. Now these Viscous Couplers are $2600 bucks, so they are F ing expensive. Anyway I responded to the thread that I had a similar issue with mine leaking on my original and the replacement they sent me but I caught it in time. Literally 5 minutes later the thread was closed out and I am assuming it was by Josh or some moderator but I don't know.
Anyway I wanted to post up what another dude screenshot and sent over to me before this thread got deleted and I will also post up pictures I had of my Gear X viscous failure. Anyway I thought this would be a good time to post something up so if anyone out there is doing some AWD research comes across this thread and thinks twice.
Thanks (again) for sharing, Kevin. It really seemed promising to be able to run a viscous coupler inside the CRV diff and simplify the driveshaft. If there is a known issue but they are still selling the bad units, that sucks!

Exactly and when anyone specifically calls them out on this in this other AWD group the threads are deleted right away which is BS. People need to see and hear issues to help guide them in decision making. Another problem is if this guy ends up going back to a locked disks he would then have to modify their drive shaft costing even more money.
Why they would take my post down is pure nonsense. All I did was point out the problems with the product including photos and use. My dealings with Jeff at gear x and Brian at trans lab were pretty bad. Jeff would still be stringing me along with his nonsense to this day if he had his way. One year later and still no talk of viscous couplers from gear x but do a quick google and well i would say they suck. Stupid fan boys don't like facts.

Well on the AWD group that dude Josh deletes any negative feedback regarding trans lab or GearX. I was lucky enough to get my money back for everything including the ring and pinion that doesn’t work. I even reached out to Brian from trans lab and asked him to build my rear diff and he flat out refused because they knew the products were trash.

That is pretty pricey. How are their other products? LSD’s front and rear, any good?
