Yanking out component speakers and puting regulars in..?
I purchased my car from a gentleman that loved crisp sounds in his car. He upgraded all the speakers to CDT and the front has a component set. The front right one has become distorted and the speakers need replacing. I was going to get a set of regular speakers and toss them in but my question is what about the way the components are wired. I know they have that box ( I do not know what they call it) that separates the power to the tweeters and speakers. Now do I just use that box still or connect the CDT tweeter to the stock wiring and install my speakers or what?
I am using my stock head unit and running a basslink sub with pioneer rear speakers.

That "box" is a crossover, and it's necessary if you want to continue using the tweeters. You cannot just connect the tweeter to your stock wiring.
However, you probably can get away with connecting most any other speaker to the low output of the crossover.

That's what I would do, just get a set of stock speakers and install them in the stock location, [mid] and connect the leads that are plugged into the CDT mid-range into the stock speaker.

remember... the speakers u get will most likely be coaxial. that means u have less midrange on it cause the tweeter is taking up space in the middle. i'd suggest get new midranges or remove the components and install coaxials. ur gonna get too much highs and not enough mid range frequency.
Well first I forgot to say that the drivers side cross over box is f-ed I think.

This is what I am asking. Can I just take out the cross over boxes and use the stock wiring. I do have tweeters factory installed in my 02 si.

You can not run the tweeters directly they need a x-over of some sort, even just a "cap.", [bass blocker] will work if you want to get rid of the x-over that came with the component speakers.

Honestly if you have one bad speaker I would try to get it replaced. CDT's are really good speakers. More then likely anything you buy will not be as good as what you already have.

So what does honda use for a crossover in their cars?

Honda uses a capacitor, [in series on pos.(+) lead] on the tweeter, mid runs full range.
Your CDT x-overs are much better, [then just a cap] as are the speakers, I have to agree with nsxxtreme why not just replace the speaker or x-over that is damaged.
I also agree that they are very good speakers, if you don't think so then you have not heard them working properly.
Let me ask you this.... Are you keeping the car do you want a good sounding system in the car?
I assumed from your OP that you just wanted something that worked because you are getting rid of the car.
If not, find out what's wrong and fix it, what do you have for equipment, other then the set of CDTs, what amp is driving them, makes and models please?

I am keeping the car. It is my car that I use to drive to work and school every day. I dont need anything extravigant just something with decent sound.
The speakers are not being run by an amp. I have the stock honda cd player pushing them. I could not tell you the model number because they came in the car when I bought it a year ago.
I had an alpine head unit and I did not like it and did not want a flashy attention getter for theives so I went back to the stock cd player. I have an audiobahn A8000T amp running a diamond audio m610d2 in the back. There are CDT speakers in the rest of the car.
I hate the subwoofer because it is so bulky. I want a basslink small unit but I can not sell the diamond.

You do not have an amp driving the CDT's???? no wonder you are not impressed with the sound of them, I do not know of any set of 6.5" CDT components that are not at least 100W continuous, [RMS] power handling, even with the Alpine HU you would have had no more the 26W RMS per ch. and your stock HU is more like 7W RMS per ch., you are way underpowered, it's also no wonder you are having problems with them.
My advice would be to find a set of 2way coax, standard 6.5", Infinity, Pioneer, Eclipse and others, make a 6.5" that will fit the stock speaker housings, [if they are still there] remove the CDT x-overs, and connect the 2ways directly to the stock HU.

Yeah that was my plan. If it was 3 years ago when I was into stereos I would have an amp driving them, but now adays I dont have the money to throw around for stuff like that.
Thanks for your help!
