Whazzup Wit My CD Player?
Geez, I hope someone can help me figure this out.
My '94 Integra GSR Sedan has the stock CD/Tape/Radio unit.
Recently, the CD player has been acting strangely.
It will play CD's fine for a while but gradually it will start to lose volume and get fuzzy/static-y until the sound
goes away. The CD will spin and select different tracks but no sound comes out.
If I shut it off and then on again it will play for a bit but loses volume and the sound dies pretty quickly.
The longer I leave it alone - the longer it will play before it loses volume but that is usually a few minutes.
The radio/FM section plays fine so it is not the amp section...
Is this something simple or should I just replace the dang thing?
Can anyone suggest a good Sony replacement that fits the best? I have a Sony Credit card that gets me a
discount / cash back...
Do I have to replace the whole unit or can I just replace the CD section?
Thanks for any help.

well it depends. is the cd part connected to the main part? if it is you will have to toss the whole thing if not crutchfield sells DIN cd players that will connect to your stock head unit. They are kind of expensive so I would reccomend changing out the whole thing. and as far as the sony units it just depends on what kind of features you want to have on it. One unit really isnt better quality than the other, just features.
sounds like the CD player portion of the unit is overheating, based on what you described. the longer you let it sit before turning the cd player back on, the more time it has to cool down. so when it is restarted, it plays longer before heating up again.
i could be totally wrong too though

Sounds like the DAC is going south.
You may probably need a new deck. Clean the deck as suggested with a CD cleaner. I don't think it's the laser or the pickup though, if that was the problem your sound would be skipping.
Any of the Sony Mobile ES decks are good. You may have to replace the entire unit, since there is only one harness going into the deck. And the CD section is connected to the other sections most likely with a ribbon cable.
