I just purchased a certified 2008 Honda Accord LX-P 4 door sedan and my first order of business is to get an alarm system. I am leaning toward getting the Viper Responder 350 2-Way Security System 3305V for $159.99 from sonicelectronix. As I'm sure all of you know, Honda's have the immobilizer system in them. My question is, will I need to bypass the immobilizer to install this system, or is the bypass only required for remote start alarm systems? (This would be the bypass needed for my car: Directed 556UW Universal Immobilizer Bypass for Remote Start -- $16.99 on newegg.com) I do realize it says remote start in the name of the bypass product but on the viper website I click on do I need xpresskit while I am viewing the alarm system and it brings me to that bypass system. I'll definitely be doing a self-install. Thanks for the help!

a bypass module is needed primarily to do remote starts....but in the case of the accord and interface module can help you by interfacing with the oem alarm instead of you running wires into the drivers door ecu.

Secondly

while this is not really a DIY project...its your car. Another thing is that DEI has changed how they do biz. If you purchase a product from a non authorized INSTALLING dealer (ie purchase it out the door no install) You have ZERO
warranty on that product period- no matter what smoke the seller blows up your butt.

 

Thanks for the response audio. I was aware of the whole warranty deal but that wasn't my biggest concern. I know there are a lot of good people out there who can do the job right but I'm uncomfortable having some clown mess around with the electronics in my car, b/c I am capable of doing it myself. Another question I have is will I be able to activate the immobilizer, then the alarm system, or will my immobilizer be completely turned off and not useable?

 

Sonics sell referb items. I had 2 customers this week that brought them in. 1 worked. The other DIB. No warranty thru dei.

And to answer your question. The immobilizer is only bypassed during remote start. And do yourself a favor. Do not mount the bypass in the cover of the key cylinder.

The express kit pkall will be the unit for you. Also do not use the d2d. Its sometimes will not let the car start.

 

The immobilizer is always "on" it is only "off" when the correct key is in the ign. switch.

As mentioned the bypass module is only needed for remotes start, but a Fortin Can-SL-PL will make wiring the alarm a snap... http://ifar.ca/en/vehicles/honda/accord/2008/ 94

 

Never tried the fortin. How well do they work? Any issues?

 

Thanks for the help guys. I just read up on sonic and found out that their service is pretty terrible, even though I ordered a cheapo alarm for my 92 Civic awhile back and it went smoothly. Warranty isn't a big factor for me since I'll be doing a self-install but I do want a NEW product. Is there any known dealer that doesn't refurb their items? Obviously on Viper its $299.99 but I do not need the warranty so I'm hoping a cheaper place has it brand new.

Also, after the install, should I refrain from even touching my factory honda remote and use only what is on the Viper remote? The reason I am confused is because on my brother's 06 Accord 4 door, if he hits the lock button twice, the car beeps, so I always thought that was the immobilizer. He doesn't have an aftermarket alarm so I have no idea what that's about.

Also, I looked into the CAN-SL-PL and under the datalink compatibility I did not see Viper systems listed there; only compustar, crimestopper, orbit, powerstart, ultrastart, and zenesis electronics corporation.

 

All of the places you listed are not dealers. All the dealers are going to be around the same price. Maybe 10-5 buxs difference. Sorrry, I can help you on the bypass. I use only dei products.

You would "hard-wire" it, instead of using data link, I find that more reliable anyway.

FYI the beep on second press of lock/arm button is the OEM alarm/key-less entry telling you you have already locked the doors/armed the alarm.

Although the stock remote will continue to work, it will of course only work the OEM system whereas the aftermarket systems remote, if wired properly, will control both the aftermarket and OEM systems. 94

 

How do you adjust the sensitivity for this alarm?

 

I prefer the idatalink modules myself. awesome instructions and great tech support if needed. I use their Multi series units, and they have some awesome capabilities.

 

The idatalink units work with dei stuff over DBI
They'll do the D2D with a directed remote start/alarm or whatever, but you have to flash it using the DBI firmware.. not sure if the solo units support this, but I know the multi series does just fine. On the idatalink website you'd use their webupdater 5 which allows you to choose if you want idatalink 1 or 2-way mode or DBI mode (which is what directed products use). Downside to DBI is you still need to hard wire the tach, brake, and i believe hood pin signals from the idatalink module to the remote start since the directed units tend not to support those via data (only if the car/module supports those features.. may have to wire those from remote starter right to the car).

At least I believe the webupdater 5 supports the config options.. it may have been their Klon programming interface which requires a login to access (and if you're an installer look into them! They have cracked the Ford and a few other encryptions so you can now program the immob unit to a ford with just 1 key, use the module to bypass subaru chip-in-key without having to use a 555u and lose a key, etc)
