Default using seperate battery for alarm.

I would like to run a seperate battery to run my Viper alarm. As it is I use a small lawn tractor battery for everthing (starter, alarm, stereo)because of space issues due to a big ol' turbo set up in a small *** engine bay. I'm not interested in relocating my battery to the back and using a full size one. In the past the lawn tractor battery has failed on me due to the alarm draining it through the night. I only drive my car in the spring through fall and near the end of fall the battery drains to the point of not starting the car...At the local Auto shop they have mini sized 12v batteries. I would like to know if anyone has tried using a seperate battery for just running an alarm. Thanks and heres some pics of the mini 12v battery.

it can be done... just get a better battery for your starting, and get a deep cylce battery put wherever you like for your alarm and stereo.

I have not done this. but i know it can be done

The lawn tractor battery works fine for just starting the car and powering the stereo. I need to know what battery would be best for just running the alarm. Thanks

my guess would be some type of deep cycle battery..... however you will still have to hook it up to get recharged by the alternator... and there is also something else you would need to prevent any type of damage to the tractor baterry. your suppose to use it when runing two batteries. I cannot remember what its called right now.

Yes you can use a second batt. for the alarm, I have done so more then a few times, all you need it the second batt. a constant duty solenoid, [batt. isolator] a relay, [for alarms ign. input] and your done. 94

Alarm ground to cars chassis.
Alarm constant 12V+ to extra batt.
Alarm switched 12V+, [ign. input] to #87 of relay.
#30 of relay to extra batt.
#86 of relay to chassis ground.
#85 of relay to cars "true ign.", [hot in run and start].
The rest of the alarm wiring does not change.

Extra batt. neg.(-) to chassis ground
Extra batt, pos.(+) to constant duty solenoids output.
Constant duty solenoids input, from "stock" batt.
Constant duty solenoids control/trigger, from cars 2nd ign., [hot in run but not start. 94

Depending on the battery. If you are using for security. If its drained to flat dead. It will never charge back up. So if this happens, and a thief unplugs the car battery the alarm will not go off.
