Default Troubleshooting

I recently installed a Pioneer DEH-3300 cd/receiver into my 94 teg, and also replaced the front speakers with Infinity Kappa's. It sounds great, but when I was driving on the highway a few days ago, I heard this loud "pop" sound. It's hard to describe the sound. It sounded kind of like a small textbook hitting a bare floor. At first, I thought maybe a rock had cracked my windshield, but that wasn't the case. It was pretty loud though - clearly audible over the music, which btw, I hadn't cranked up that loud. My settings for the eq (if it matters) was +2 at 63hz and +4 at 12khz. Any ideas what the problem might be?

Try to repeat the problem.

Are you running an amp or are the speakers powered by the head unit?

If it's powered by the head unit the head unit amp may have sent a clipped signal to the speaker, thus the "pop". But it shouldn't do that unless the volume is all the way up.

Maybe the rear speakers were blown out?

Default Re: Troubleshooting (redblues)

The speakers are powered off the hu and the rear speakers aren't blown.

Yeah, I was thinking I might have clipped the amp, but it wasn't like I had it playing that loud. Hmm... then again, trying to hear my stereo over my exhaust at highway speeds might mean it's playing louder than I thought. The hu is rated at 50wx4, and the kappas have a sensitivity of 89dB, so I'm not sure if clipping is the problem. BTW, on my return trip, I heard the pop once more... basically the same conditions (listening to a CD, normal volume, loud pop)

Could it be the ground?
