Default Trouble Installing Speakers

This is my first time installing speakers/hu/Amp into a car and it started off well. Now I have run into a little bit of a problem with running the speaker wire. I have my front component speakers mounted but am stuck on how to run the wires from the crossover which is in the door to cabin of the car.

I know you are suppose to go through the rubber that holds the other wires from the door to the cabin. But I am having trouble here, I have no idea where the outlet ends, and when I try to run a clothes hanger through it gets stuck and can't curve around. I need some help on how to do this better or an alternate way of routing the speaker wire. Any pictures would be helpful as well...thanks

How about you give us a little info first...

MM&Y of car?

Makes and models of the equipment?

I will assume you replaced a stock, [or aftermarket] HU with a new one, installed component speakers in the doors and a 2ch amp to drive them, is that correct?

When you say you installed the component speakers x-overs "in the doors" do you mean inside the door itself or between the vapor barrier and the door panel?

To run speaker wire into the doors of most Honda/Acura is a bit of a pain for the first timer, it requires you to unplug the door harness from the dash harness, at the "A" pillar, [where the rubber boot runs from the door to the car] it can be a little tricky as there will be locking tabs, even secondary locking tabs, and one of the plugs is mounted. [clipped] to the hole in the "A" pillar], once unplugged and unclipped the dash harness plug can be pulled into the car, around the kick panel.

You will also have to "undo" some of the door harness hold-downs, [without damaging them] so you can pull the door harness out of the door a little, [through the hole in the door it is run through, or out of the speaker hole or any hole in the door that gives you the most harness outside the door.

You will have taken, [carefully] the rubber "boot" off the the door harness plug to expose the locking tabs for the plug, you will also "pop" the rubber boot out of the door, it's in there like a grommet, once it is pulled out you will see that it is, [the rubber boot] taped to the wire harness, you will need to undo this, [do not forget where the rubber boot is taped to the wire harness, mark it somehow].

Once the harnesses are pulled out enough you will be able to plug them in again, through the door opening.

From this point there are two main ways to go, the right way, [spelled ****] or the wrong way, but it will work very well.

Give me the info I asked for and let me know which way you want to do the door wiring. 94

1999 Honda Civic Ex Coupe and the easiest way to go about this.

Installing Infinity Kappa 90.7cs components, with a Pioneer 690UB head unit and a Pioneer 6200F 4 ch amp. The crossover is installed between the door and door panel, actually mounted on the inside of the door panel.

You can run wires through the Connectors in the Door. Depending on what gauge wires you're using, you may have to drill a hole to fit them through.

This was one of the biggest MFPITAs I've ever dealt with on my car. I've dealt with worse, but those parts aren't part of my car yet...

Anyway, I'll be able to post pics later in the afternoon. Things will make a lot more sense if you remove your Fender(s). You'll see the Rubber Boot coming from your Cabin (actually, kind of like a "Double" or "Split Boot"), and how it leads to your Door's Molex Connector. Unfortunately, you'll also have to remove your Side Skirt to remove the Fender...

After doing this, you can decide if you want to drill into those babies or simply try to feed it through an inch of Electrical Grease to the hole you want. From my (noob) experience, 18ga or thicker = Drill.

Of course, you can also create your own pins for these Connectors. I'm not that skilled.

OK, I assume you are using 16ga speaker wire.

Once you have the harnesses out far enough that you can plug them into each other again you will be able to find a spot on plugs, around the edge or unused pin locations that you can drill out big enough to run the speaker wire through, both plugs, being careful not to damage any of the pins or their mounting locations in the plugs.

Once the speaker wire will slide through the plugs unplug them and run the speaker wire through the dash harness plug and reroute the plug through the "A" pillar hole, do the same with the door harness plug through the hole in the door, if not already there, now run the speaker wire through the door harness plug and plug the plugs back together, pulling the speaker wire through the door harness plug to take up the slack.

Reinstall rubber boot on plug and remount plugs in "A" pillar hole.

Re-tape rubber boot to door harness, [and speaker wire] and reinstall rubber boot into doors harness hole, remount hold-downs.

Your done.

BTW, while you have the plugs apart and you can slide the rubber boot down the door harness a ways, inspect the wiring for damage when you were pocking around with the hanger wire. 94

PS, pix 6 and 7 may help... https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=888262

ditch the wire hangar i usually use a large white zip tie you can cop from a friend that does HVAC for houses and buildings or they have them at Home Depot or Lowe's as well. they usually come in a pack of about 10 or 20 and range anywhere from 2 to 4 feet in length. get one or a bag of them and take one and cut off the squarish "clip" that locks the ziptie.

i usually feed the ziptie through the grommet which the wires need to go through first and then attach my wires to the ziptie through very tight taping to the ziptie itself. use a little bit of lubricant (dry silicone spray works well and is less messy than WD-40) on the taped area where your ziptie and wires meet to ease the pull through the tight grommets. but you do have those molex plugs which definitely makes it a little trickier.

follow what fcm says...he def. knows his ****
