Default swapping head units

I went from a 97 hatch to an 02 sedan. I know i need the metra dash kit but as far as wiring the head unit, do i need a new harness or could i just swap everything over plug and play?

its not a factor of buying a new one, im just not familiar with stereo equipment. I had my last install done at a shop. I diddnt know the harnesses could be swapped, or if i should just get a new one.

The harness you have works with civics up to '98 IIRC. They changed the plug in '99.

It's very easy to install the new harness. The aftermarket stereos and harnesses are all color coded the same, so it's simply a matter of color matching the wires.

One plug is for a '98 and below civic then, the other is for a '99+ Had the harness been for a '98 and below civic only it would not have worked.

My hatch was a 1997. The new car is an 02 LX. I ordered the scoshe dash kit and scoshe wiring harness. The connectors were exactly the same. I diddnt even open up the new wiring harness package, i just reused the one that was already on there. Ill save this new one for when i get a double din unit. maybe it changed in 96 when the 6th generation started? Cause mine was direct plug and play

No, it changed with the '99 - '00 facelift. If you you used the same plug on the harness both cars then someone swapped out the dash harness in the '97 for a '99 - '00 dash harness.

Has any one of you guys tried to install a double din in a 97 ek? I am thinking about changing my single din to a double.

I haven't done it, but you need to swap the climate control out for a '99 - '00 unit along with the harness, or part of the harness.

Not necessary, the change was started in 97/98, there was a lot of Xover depending on MM&Yof car month of build and what plant it came out of.

Some 01 Integra still used the old plug while most changed over in 97/98.

It does not surprize me one bit the OPs 97 hatch harness is the same as his 02 sedan.

That is a lot of work. I was also thinking of trading in my vehicle for a 2006 civic si. I was looking for navigation units and came accross ottonavis webiste. One of my friend told me he just purchased one for his 2007 accord from them and he really loved it. Anyone ever purchase from them or have any opinions on their navigation?

You should get a car specific wiring harness and then you should be able to plug it right in

Anyone have any experience with the Clarion CX501? It has a built-in mic for the phone...trying to decide between it and others that have an external mic.
