Default stereo install probs.

we installed a cd player into my girls gsr the other day, we wired it up perfectly but only prob is, the player turns on and works, the player shows that music is playing but no sound comes from speakers. Yes it is wired up perfectly. Shes has a 96 gsr and it is an aiwa cd deck. any suggestions? everytime we turn on the cd player there is a small click from the rear speakers.

does the radio work?
take a meter and hook it up to the speakers to see if any signal is getting to them. If no signal and all you hear is pop, that would probably mean that they are not hooked up right.
If the radio works and not the CD player, then you have an internal problem. or a short some where.
You could also check continuity between the deck and the speakers. If thats good, then it lies with in the deck, or the connection.

sounds like you actually might have gotten the wiring turned around reversing the polarity of the +/- try taking a look over the wiring again... most install probs and headaches are wiring errors goodluck

I checked the speakers and fromwhat i saw there is juice goin to them so its not that, and i checked the wiring 3 times and even rewired it and also had a friend of mines check it and it worked. the radio and cd player both dont work but the power to it works, im startin to think its the head unit, when we first plugged it in i did mess up 1 of the wires, the teg wiring has 1 wire for illumination, what does this wire do? where does it go with? i have wired the stereo up without it, the person who owned hte car before had subs wired in a really weird way soi had to fix the clutter first but its all nice and clean and just have the stock wires in there, im pretty sure everythings perfect. Could i have fried the stereo? only thing is the fuse on the stereo still is intact so if i woldve done anything through the head unit wouldnt the fuse have blown?

yes and no.. The fuse is only hooked to the main power of the stereo. But if you accidentally pushed voltage through one of the speaker wires, this could have blown the radio. Best bet is to take it to a local stereo shop and have them test it. most places have a dummy station hooked up so you can test quick with out charge.

IIRC, the illumination wire makes the display dim when you turn on the headlights. it should be a red/black wire. some decks don't have an illumination wire, so it might not go anywhere. did you use a wiring harness or did you have to cut wires on the teg side of that plug? do you have an extra speaker sitting around that you can experiment with? i would just hook up power and ground and check all the speaker wires individually using the experimental speaker.

as for the head being blown... its possible you could have fried the amp in the deck without blowing the fuse if you did something like touch the speaker wires directly to each other or something. could you have done that by mistake??

good luck.

Pull the head unit out. Place deck on a work bench with the following- a home theater amp/receiver, one car speaker, some wires, and a 12v source.

Check fuse. If blown replace if not proceed.
Hook up power to deck. Hook up speaker to one of the speaker outs from the deck. Play CD, ensure volume is turned up. If no sound proceed if there is sound something is shorted out in car's wiring. Check all speaker wires for continuity between wire and ground. If there is continuity that's the problem wire.
Hook up home amp to RCA out's. If no sound deck may be busted or some settings are off. Look for a reset button. If there is sound from the RCA's then the internal amp may be fried.
