SPS-17C2 or SPS-600?
recently my passenger door speaker blew in my 98 EX. I bought the car a couple years ago and the stereo system was already in it, Alpine speakers and HU. Could slamming car doors damage speakers? My "friend" was slamming my door everytime getting into my car the past couple days.
Anyway, I don't have an amplifier but I want good sound. Looking to spend $80 tops. I'm looking mainly between these two speakers. I have read that modification will be needed, the diameter is a little bigger than 6.5 and the depth is 2"1/4 but the door depth is 2"1/8 I think.

The SPS-17C2 comes with a spacer tho, and I can just dremel out a little bit the diameter.
I dunno, it's either one of these two or the 5"1/4 ones, but I don't want to go a step down with sound.

A speaker should not be damaged by slamming a door, however your friend should be.
I would go with the SPS-600... http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-e...tab=F as the mounting diameter is the same as the stock speaker as should be the mounting holes, mounting depth is about 1/4"deeper then stock.
First thing I would want to know is what Alpine speakers are in the doors now, as the 600 series speakers are new to Alpine, [and it's about time they made a standard 6.5" speaker again] so my guess is the ones in there now are Alpines over-sized 6.5" speakers.
I would pull the "damaged" speaker to get a model number, see how they are mounted and check and make sure it's not just a wiring issue.

when I was fixing my window I got a quick look at it, the bolt holes were different, but it fit in fine. I don't know what exact model it was but it had a red logo on it. I'll scope it out get more info.
This is the speaker looks like a type r. Is it possible that it's just a faulty connection? It doesn't stop playing, like going in and out at all so I'm guessing not. It crackles and whenever the bass comes out it sounds worse. Pretty rusty, the woofer doesn't look damaged at all tho but I'm not that experienced with electronics....

If I have a type r crossover, would it be ok to use type s speakers? Or will I need the same speaker or equivelant?

theres no amp that I know of....
Their is only one speaker, the passenger one that has this problem.
I believe it's the SPR-176A set, with 2 little tweeters, two crossover's and door speakers. I'm not positive cause this setup came with the car, and just remember seeing one crossover when I took the door panel off.
Someone suggested that I lightly push in the cone to test to see if the speaker is blown. It did make some noises when I tested this so I think it's blown. but i'm not totaly sure if I pushed it in the right spot...

I just put in a set of alpine SPR-17C in my acura 1.6EL and 16 gu power wire on my rockford amp wow they pound pretty good even when i cranked it they did not distort the doors start to rattle a bit. The magnets just fit threw the steel in the door only make it threw 1/8" all around at that.

What kills speakers is water. Look at the magnets when it rains water runs down the door sil and fals and splashes around the magnet and cone. YOu can get these bass boomer ods. Ill get a pic of it tonight

There only $12.99 there i got them in canada for 9 bucks at canadian tire. But pep boys or what ever parts place should have them.
They were to big for my acura i just cut them in half with a hack saw then cut it down 2 lips and that piece fits perfect in the OEM hole just leave 3 ears on its so when u put the door panel on it will hold it in place.

Cool thanks man
But I'm still wondering, if I get Alpine type S speakers will I be able to run them off the older type R crossover's currently in their? Like will they wire right up?
Or should I just get type r speakers? the diameter as you can see in the pic, has already been widened by the previous owner.
