Default Space and bass

I'm looking at usable space in my 95 Civic hatch, but I'd like some bass as well. I'm rather handy and was thinking of either putting some 8's or 10's in the quarters where the rear speakers go (free air subwoofers), but I'm concerned about the quarters and or plastic quarter interior rattling. I've also considered making a custom bass enclosure in the door with either a 6.5" or 8". I'd keep the stock location for mids and highs (running components there) and modify the pocket in the door for the speaker location. I have some extra door panels to screw around with. I'm concerned about adding to much weight to the door (wood, body filler, etc.). I'd also like the windows to go all the way down. I'm not trying to compromise anything, just add more bass, nothing earth shaking, just something that hits a little. I've had a bass tube and boxes before, but every time I need to put something in the trunk or get to the spare I have to move that stuff. I'll be mounting the amp to the back of the seats so it's up and out of the way, but thoughts on amp location would be appreciated as well. Has anyone see either of these done? Any suggestions? How about tweeter location? I currently have them mounted at the corners of the dash, but I'm not happy with the visual set up of the tweeters. Any thoughts here? Thanks in advance.

JL doesn't make one for my 95 hatch. Thanks though.

That's what I'm proposing, I just wondered if anyone had modified either their doors, quarters or tried to fit a sub inside the spare (similar to the RSX or Nissan Murano) and what types of results they had. Thanks, I think building one to fit is my only solution, I'm just looking for input or experience with these set ups.

The tweets here look nice and have good imaging. The fiberglass sub housing looks a to be a lot of work. http://images.google.com/imgre...a%3DN
Could put it in the spare compartment.

And just for ideas

Props to schmiddr2! Thanks for the help. I did an image search, but didn't come up with the images you came up with. Thanks for the help. I'm not sure if I'll go with a custom quarter panel, I was thinking something behind the trim panel with a custom enclosure, but I might build the enclosure inside the spare wheel as I have a full size spare. My only obstacle is having enough air inside the limited space. The quarters would be a good permanent solution and I wouldn't have to fight the stereo to get to the spare if I had a flat. I'm concerned with the plastic panels rattling due to the sub being there, but I suppose any sub, regardless of location, might rattle any of the interior panels. I also need to make sure I have the clearance for the sub to operate behind the panel. Thanks again for the pics.

Thanks for the links! I was aware of the JLs, but they are very expensive. I'm a 'good value' kind of guy. The pioneers are much more affordable. While the JLs might sound better in a side by side comparison.....I'm not sure the extra $300 will be worth it. Thanks again for letting me know about the pioneer shallow sub. I still haven't decided which way to go....either quarter panels or in the full size spare.
