Default searching for headunit advice

looking for a consensus about head units, used specifically with usb and mp3 player hookup.

I have been a long time pioneer user but haven't needed a head unit in a while and am looking at used units for less then $125, not much money but budget dictates that I keep it under that.

Wanted to see if anyone has any specific models that would be good buys from any of the major brands that could be found on ebay or craislist, or if you have it for sale on here.

I am looking for something that will be extremely reliable and well built with usb on the front, and mp3 player hookup and enough out puts for two amps.

I think that is about all i am looking for !

Thanks for any input

If you could save up a tad more, this would be far superior than anything you'll get in it's price range

See if you can find a kenwood x693 or x993 on ebay for craigslist. No usb on the front, though =[

the kenwood that edzy listed is a great unit, and if you can find one check out the mp345u from kenwood also...i think crutchfield has them for like 129 or something like that

After edzy's advice i started looking for Kenwood units and found a KDC-HD545U for 100, so hopefully that is a decent choice?

i would listen to radio more but sadly like most places stations blow around here, or the fact that my car doesn't even have an antenna right now HA HA!

Anyone ever used one of the amplified window antenna from say metra or something? was thinking of blocking the external radio antenna

the 44-ua200 from metra works decently, but nothing special. i use them mostly on hotrods that don't have an external, but the custy's typically never listen to the radio. also used a lot of the 44-ua20 hideaway high gain antennas on rods.

i have the KDC-HD545U in my crv. i got it for 150 from crutchfield because i had some "Refer a friend" discount code for $20 off. just google for their coupon codes.

it was worth it since they give you the wiring harness and mounting kit and install instructions for your car

it has the usb port and aux input port right on the front of the unit. you can use a standard apple ipod cable in it, and either control it from the headunit or the ipod, your choice. you just press 1 on the deck when youre in ipod mode and it switches from hands on to hands off.

i really love this deck, the HD radio sounds really good too. im not sure how many amp outputs it has though, why not just run 1 amp that does your speakers AND sub?

hope this helps. 100 for this deck would be a great deal, if thats what you've found.

It looks like it has all of the bells and whistles, I have a pioneer premiere headunit, it was the best one they made about 4 yrs ago but was thinking as to why I bought it and it was bc my brother bought their stuff and it had never failed me but figured lets see what else is out there and the look of the pioneer stuff doesn't really wow me and kind of looks cheap.

I really had been trying to find head units Made in USA, and as im sure most of you know that NONE are, so figured buy one used so im not supporting the foreign market.

with the outputs i was kind of throwing that out there and would have to agree it would be better just to run one amp, less weight as well, which is huge for me aswell.

Hopefully it gets here quick bc my factory honda radio is awful, i go to trun it down and it cranks all the way up, and vice versa. and you have to press the next button for the next song!

thanks again
