remote start not starting (searched)
i installed a remote start/alarm today and everything works but it wont start. when i try to remote start it, it turns over but does not start. the car will start with the key so im sure somethings not hooked up right. the only wire im unsure of is the purple wire. the instructions say to connect it to either the "ignition induction wire", "engine oil wire", or "storage battery charge wire". im not sure what any of those are. right now it is connected to the tach signal. im lost so any help would be great.
Ditto the above^^^
Also try this, stick the key in the ign., [do not turn on] then try and remote start the car, if it starts, your car has an immobilizer and you need a bypass module.
Don't forget MM&Y of car and make and model of alarm/remote start.

well its a 97 civic cx. all i really wanted to know is what those 3 wires were. im sure theyre something simple but i want to be certain. im pretty sure it doesnt have an immoblizer from the factory but i could be wrong. can someone confirm that? and the tumbler in the car sucks. it gets stuck turning a lot. thanks for the help.
Sounds like you don't have your tach signal wire hooked up correctly. This wire is used to monitor the rpm's of the motor. For most systems this wire needs to be hooked up or you need to switch the unit over to "voltage sense" . Not sure what unit your using, so I could be wrong, but that is what it sounds like to me. Try running it to the tach/service connector under the hood (single blue wire at driver shock tower) and programming your tach signal. See if it starts after that.
The other possibitly could be that you don't have your ignition harness wiring hooked up properly. Does the dash lighting act the same when you try and remote start it as compared to starting it with a key?

it currently hooked to the tach signal wire. thats why im so confused. the instructions only give those 3 wires as choices. not a tach. i assume the "ignition induction wire" means tach signal right? or not? ive installed a few systems like this before on my 95 civic and a few others. the dash and parking lights act normal. the lights flash then it cranks, then does not start. then the light turn off b/c its not started. it seams as if you try and start a car with a bad ur disconnected ignition. it cranks but no fire.
Again, what brand/model no. remote start is this?
You might have to program the tach. On Vipers/probably most DEI you start it with the key, then hold down the valet switch, within a few seconds of it starting, until the LED starts flashing quickly (iirc).
Once the tach is programmed correctly it should know how long to crank it until it will start. Otherwise as stated before, switch it to "voltage sense" -- consult your installation manual if it has this ability.
Or if the car is having a hard time starting as it is, you may need to up the cranking duration. But consider this as a "band aid" and figure out what is really causing the problem.

ok i see this isnt goin anywhere so ill try to clarify everything.
its a PLC Auto systems alarm. model no. CA-7088-2
the car starts itself fine. i know its a problem with the alarm system, NOT the car itself.
the instructions include an installation guide. and very little (almost nothing) about programing the system. it does not tell me how to go into valet mode, switch from voltage sense or any other option.
im positive it is installed correctly except for the wire ive been asking about. and still havent received and answer. as stated before the installation guide says nothing about a tach signal.
can someone please tell me what the three wires in the OP are? and tell me if theyre is a way to, or to find out how to program the system?

Your car does not have an immobilizer.
The remote start does not use tach sensing it uses current sensing, connect it the purple lead to the alt. charge output line.

Just out of curiosity, is this some kind of Ebay alarm system? Not bashing or anything, but I have never heard of it (been an installer for 15 years) Just curious as to what kind of system doesn't have the ability to monitor the tach signal.
sorry, i know this is an old post, but back in 07 i bought one of these alarms for a friend, same model. He endedup selling the car before i installed it. Now 2 years later i am installing it into my 2005 GTO, and im having the same issue.
would i still connect to the alternator charge output line?
