Default Remote start on Manual tranny

I have looked and looked and looked.....and called all the installers around here looking for an alarm that has the remote start capability on a manual transmission. Does anyone know if it is even possible or where I can get one. I want to get one so bad, but no one has been able to help so far.

No dealer or retail store will install it because of liability issues. Suppose you leave it in gear when you park it at night, and remote start it in the morning? There goes your car down the street and they don't want to be held responsible for installing something that can be dangerous.

It can be done, though. Just have to find someone who knows how to do it.

I love mine and it's totally worth it, just remember to ALWAYS LEAVE IT IN NEUTRAL.

Find a Compustar dealer. They will install one on a manual transmission as the Compustar units have a manual transmission mode. The way that they do it is almost 100% foolproof that the vehicle cannot be started when in gear

Whats up Minnesotean!!!! Are you from SWEET SOUNDS CAR AUDIO??

I remember that name from a customer of mine that I swapped a JDM B16a into his CRX. I think I recall a decal on his hood or windsheild.

You guys are located like 4 hours away from the Twin Cities right?

i am an installer at good guys, if you need any diagrams for hook up on a manual laet me know. my brother also designed a plate that protects your car when in gear through the use of magnets and relays around the shifter. If youleave oyur car in gear it enables the relays and your car wont start. its pretty sweet.

If you have ever seen how a CompuStar "sets-up" a stick shift car to start safely when you leave the vehicle, you will realize that its a lot more simplified and reliable, than having "plates, sensors, etc" installed.

Its all based on forcing the driver and all its occupants out of the car with the engine running, e-brake engaged, key's out of the ignition, and doors shut.

I'm not gonna go in detail again here because I've posted it many times before how the CompuStar works. Do a search and you will see.

The best thing to do is to see how it works in person from a person who already owns one. Some people understand it better when they see it instead of to verbally explain it.

The other way you described by adding sensors or plates would even INFLATE the cost of installation more......and it would still be prone to failing. Either failing to NOT START when it was safe, or failing to START when it shouldnt.

I remember an install buddy of mine at another shop using ASTROFLEX years ago with their sensors and he said customers where in all the time getting the sensors adjusted on the stick shift. It would always get out of alignment and not start for the customer.

The CompuStar uses no additional physical sensors or plates on the stick shift. Just the fact that a driver cannot leave a car in gear if the engine is running.....so the CompuStar keeps the car running while you get out with the key and doesnt shut the engine off until you have left and all doors are shut. Now if no one opens up any of the doors from now until the next time you try to remotely start it.....it will work. If the car was entered anytime between....it will not remotely start.

I guess I kinda explained it already when I said you should do a search.

I should write something like this in further detail and ask to make it a "sticky post" at least for the winter months when remote starters are the hot item.

Here at Autostart, I install these on a regular basis. Yes we do have alarm/starters for man trans. If anyone wants to buy one of me (i'll support it as well) mail me at scott@autostart.ca, and check out http://www.autostart.ca. Thanks.

I'm installing the Compustar alarm/remote start unit 2WFM-AS and require -12 volt on the ebrake wire to activate. The default wire at the bottom of the ebrake is +12 volts. Can someone please tell me is there an -12 ebrake wire on a 1999 intergra or is there other way to wire the ebrake to give -12volt. Thanks.

just get a clifford alarm system, the solaris 5 is the cheapest with remote start around 400 or so... it also has the manual mode safe start . if there is a clifford dealer that won't install a clifford alarm sys/ remote start , they shouldn't be a clifford dealer.
