Default Rear deck removal?

I took out the rear seats for my stereo install. I got my priorities straight, right?(Check out the link in my sig for pics) Anyway, the rear speakers are not hooked up and I'd like to remove the rear deck entirely. Is this possible? If so, how do I do it?

remove the panels that cover the quarter panels (plastic with the arm rests built in). Then they rear shelf will come out...

What will be remaining? Will it look hideous?

Yeah, of course it will look hideous...you will still have the metal rear shelf there...

I wouldn't recommend you take that out....

You say "of course" like I've done it before. Thanks for the info though. I would be doing this for aesthetic purposes so if it's going to just leave bunch of metal, forget it.

Can anyone else confirm what this guy is saying?

Well, the reason I say of course is because if you look from the trunk to the underside of the rear shelf, you can see all kinds of ribs, plugs, wiring, etc. That should hint to the fact that you won't have a "finished" look if you do infact remove that plastic. Just a simple inspection should give you those clues.

In addition, I've never really looked under any trim panel on the interior of a car and found something that looks "better" then what's covering it...have you?

Plus if you remove that shelf, you will lose your third brake light. That rear shelf also interfaces with the trim that goes around the quarter windows. It also exposes the rear seat belt mechanisms further, and you can even see the tops of the turnk hinges and a bunch of wiring....In addition, you can see the release mechanisms for the split rear seats.

All of these components were meant to be covered by this panel, so they are not finished in any way. If you happen to be unhappy with this panel, my suggestion would be to modify it with some fiberglass or build a new one to suit your tastes, but I wouldn't suggest you remove it all together.

Trust me, I'm not lying, I have better things to do... I just spent two weeks with my 00 Civic Si gutted, so I know what everything looks like in that car.

Easy now curley.

I didn't look. I'm lazy - sue me. I'm not calling you a liar, I just wanted somebody to confirm what you said with a simple "Yeah, he's right."

I suspected all that you said so I'm not going to remove the rear deck for sure now. Thank you for answering my question promptly and thoroughly.
