Porting Question
Hey guys, I have a Pioneer 450w max IMPP sub in a Q-Logic Type 1 box. I've heard good thing about porting the box on here from you gentelmen and was wondering what I should do about porting it (or if I even should)??
what model number is it? If it's the silver cone with the aluminum dustcap in the middle, then IMO, port it. I had the 10" version and they sounded great for a subwoofer like that. But if the output is enough for you already, no need to make it louder.
It's grey with the black centercap. Red writing that says 450W IMPP. I would go check to see what model number it is, but all of the boxes are at my parents house.
EDIT: I've heard from porting you can actually get lower frequencies out of your subs. That's why I want to port it.

lower frequency? naturally, a sealed box will always have a lower roll-off. It's just it's nature, unless you tune the port down to 5hz or so, lol!.
What you get out of ported is an increase around the tuning frequency. If you tune your port to about say 30hz, most likely, you gain SPL within that region, but top-end performance suffers. There is a trade-off in everything.
BTW, i wouldn't port those pioneers. They sound kinda farty in a ported box, unless that's the sound you're after. hehe

Well thanks then man!! I appreciate it. I was looking to get the lower frequencies to sounds better with the subs, and I don't care as much about the higher ones, but if it sounds bad ported, then I won't bother. I apprecaite all of your help!

I can own any sealed box in the audible subbass range
I can't comment on what that sub will sound like since I don't have the t/s specs for it.
