Plugged CD changer in, no sound, no changer functionality
So my headunit was working perfectly fine until i tried plugging my cd changer in. Once i did this, power still got to the headunit, but no sound was coming from the speakers anymore. I checked the speakers, and they don't seem to be grounding anywhere. The cd changer is the only function that doesn't work, and when i unplug it, there is still no sound. What should i be looking for?
what kind of brand? on my kenwood if you have a ground/short in the speaker wire, the whole thing will go mute(ex: bare speaking wire touching the chassis)
LOL, you plugged an Alpine changer into a Panasonic HU and your wondering what is wrong?
I am going to go out on the limb here and assume you have shorted out the preamp section of your Panasonic HU.

ya i just found out that it might be that as well..in my mind, with todays technology, if the male fits easily into the female connector, you shouldn't have to worry about frying your equipment!! (i sound like a dumbass, i know) is it fixable? or should i just buy a new head unit? might not be worth fixing as it is an 8 year old system

LOL... FCM beat me to it... But that's what I was getting at by asking you make & models for everything because I just knew that the two were not of the same manufacturer..
And your thought about "todays technology" is seriously flawed... Except for universal TV remotes, NEVER is anything compatible between brands... That's why there are "brands" to begin with...
Unless you're handy with a soldering iron and can read a service manual (which I doubt you are), you should just purchase a new deck.

ouch!! i'm a mechanical engineer..so i think i could handle that! nobody else has touched my car except when i did a complete engine swap (i have done many mods). my views are not flawed..i am not talking about brands not being compatible, i am talking about connectors. think of all the different brands you plug into a computer: if the male connector fits into the female, it doesn't matter which brand it is.
thank you for the help guys!! much appreciated!

Totally understand your "engineering view" now...
But in the car audio world, it just don't work like that.
For an 8 year old deck, I'd bet you can find a service manual online somewhere for free, and parts should be readily available... Don't know what online parts houses you've got access to up North, but I've used http://www.partstore.com with great success.
Good luck, sir.
