Default new head unit install ?'s...

I have a 99 civic and I should be getting my headunit any minute from ups. I'm just wondering if I absolutely have to use the dash kit, or can i just replace my stock cd player (since it's single din anyway) and keep the original OEM pocket at the bottom? I bought the kit just in case, but was hoping I dont have to use it.

it won't be as secure if you don't use it. so if a thief breaks in, the headunit would most likely slide right out, while the dash kit will keep it a bit more secure.

You do not need a kit, you will have to do a little modding, the ISO mounting holes in the stock housing, step #15... http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs...PDF/466005.asp will need to be filed so the HU sits in the correct location.

ISO mounting is a lot more secure then when using a kit. 94
