Default Need Car Security System Advice...

I really need to get a car security system so I've been researching them quite a bit. I've narrowed my choices down to 3 or 4 alarms but I just wanted to get some input before I set my mind on one and get it installed.

Currently I'm considering the Clifford Matrix 3.5, Clifford G5 Intelliguard 750, and the Clifford G5 Intelliguard 850. I was also looking at the Compustar 2WSS, but I'm not sure if thats actually a better security system than the Cliffords. What I want is a good security system. I'd rather pick the better security system over one that has two way paging and other "cool" features. I just want my car to be as safe as possible.

Any input or personal experiences would be appreciated...

clifford went out of business, so if you ever have a major problem with it, you're screwed. Also, an alarm is an alarm, just some have better and more features. Alarms will only slow a thief, not prevent him from stealing your ride in mymind.

I completely agree that a car alarm will probably never stop a car thief, however I want an alarm that can slow them down as long as possible. Just cuz an alarm will probably never stop a thief doesnt mean we all shouldnt have car alarms. They are mostly used to scare away the amatuer thieves and slow down the professional ones. That is why I want a really good alarm, and from all my research these alarms I listed are among the better ones. I'm open to other suggestions, or criticism/praise about the ones I listed...I just need to decide which one to get, not whether to get one or not...

Where did you get this info that Clifford went out of business? DEI bought them out about two years ago. They are still in business but I still wouldn't buy a Clifford. I can tell you about at least 10 people that owned Cliffords and weren't happy with them including me. Look at an actual DEI piece.

Clifford G5 Intelliguard 750 is a good system, it comes with blackjax one of the best ways to not get jacked, i would go with that, the pager is overrated and the range sucks, don't relie on a pager i don't

Get an Avant Guard, my dad's friend has one. He paid around 3000 for it, but it is badass.

I havent been able to find anything on an avantguard. Do you happen to have any sites or other sources where I can get detailed information on this lineup?

I recomend getting BlackJax and the MatrixRS3.5. I currently have the older version (RS3)

I have Blackjaxin my car along with the RS3. Its like having two seperate alarms in the car, gotta disable both before using. and about blackjax, IT JuST ROCKS! Everytime you wanna use your car, u have to enter a specific pattern into a 2-button pad. If the jacker doesn't know your code, the car will not start, even if you have the key. Everytime your car is shut off, blackjax is on and automacally kills the engine. So, even if a thief goes into your car and rips out blackjax, the car still will not turn on. Good stuff and a good investment But i'm sure thieves will get smarter and find a way around it (towing). TIll then, its a good thing to have

Also, i would recomend that you get Tilt sensors.

You know you're a baller when you got remote start

Places like Best Buy or Circuit City won't install the remote start option because of liability purposes. I went to a clifford certified shop called Audio Excellence, they instlal is reasonable. 150 for the RS3 and 90 for the blackjax.

Don't forget to leave the car in neutral tho!

Hmm I didn't thing of mixing the Matrix with the Intelliguard. All I really wanted from the Intelliguard was the Blackjax, but if you say you have it installed then thats phat. I was thinking that I would have to get the brain from the Intelliguard to get the Blackjax. Is there any special installation involved to do what you did, or is it straight forward? Thanks for your help...

I'm not too sure about how it is installed. I have absolutely no experience at installing alarms, especially with kill switches. So, i let the professionals do it. It look them like an entire day, dropped the car off early in the morning then picked it up at night. I would just recomend getting the RS3.5 and Black Jax. Also, don't forget to tell the installers to shorten any excess wire and run the wires under the carpet.
RS3.5
-shock sensors all over glass
-hood sensor
-trunk sensor
-and the baller Remote start
BlackJax
-Antijacking devise.

In addition to that, i would high recomend you add a tilt sensor to your system. Just incase, thieves decide to tow it.

Honestly, i think all of that is enough.

Well since you did not state the type of vehicle
I'll do my best to give my version of a decent security
system ( now I did not mention the word alarm did I )

A good system will have elements of the following:

a. all entry points protected: doors, hood, hatch trunk
b. an audio sensor ( ie glass breakage)
c. a tilt/motion sensor ( modern ones can detect 1 degree
or less of movemnent)
d. a dual level shock sensor ( detect light jarring as well as heavy blows)
e. a single or dual immobilzer system ( normally interupting starter/ign
or both )
f. a hood lock...it keeps the hood from being open by unathorized persons)
g. a dual zone radar sensor ....a must have if you own a convertable or
just plain paranoid ( I want to know if so much as a bird ***** on my car....)
h. Horn honk or xtra sirens...the more noise the better.
i. ability to do the driver convience things: keyless entry,hatch-trunk
release,remote start capability,window roof opertation,audio operation
etc.

Well that wraps up my little insight...hope this helps.
