I am currently looking for a good setup in my car. I just need a TV screen (bigger than 5") to hook up my PS2 and aftermarket radio to. My question is, what do you recommend? I want something that fits in the dash and either manually folds down or automatically folds down. Also, if I were to get just a screen itself, one that doesn't mount inside the dash, is it possible to make it fold down in one of the shelfs on the console, like above the radio or something? If you have any pictures of custom work or can recommend something like this (try to keep it under $300), then please post! Thanks for your help guys! The car is a 2001 Acura Integra. Ideas and comments are welcome!
well if you really want to put a screen in i think you will need more than 3 bills. Now i could be wrong, ive been out of teh car audio game a for sometime. Lately, the cheapest i have seen is around 500. and i beleive it did fold down.

i have a clarion motorized in-dash screen (6.5 inches) w/ AM/FM Audio Controlls and preouts for dvd player, system, etc etc.....its refurb, but i tested it agianst my retail NEW one, and they play exactly the same - its $500 shipped
pioneer dvd7300 i think it was, $2100 cdn, and thats at a good price
the 5-6.5" screens stand alone are 1000$ cdn the dvd player is 1000$ cdn, + you gota buy a processer if you want it done right *400$*
i look at them everyday at work lol wish they could be mine

Hmm $300 is a tough amount to work with for an in-dash LCD plus custom work, unless you do the work yourself.
You can buy a raw LCD screen with RGB inputs for around $200 but it requires a large amount of custom work if you want it to look nice and blend in with the interior.
If you go that route I can help with the circuitry and if necessary, a composite to RGB adapter. You can make a trim ring out of MDF and paint it or laminate it. Mounting will require some metal work (or fiberglass if you don't weld/braze).

hehe...just save up and get an actual computer monitor LCD (ranging from 11" to 19" in the mainstream currently)...
That'd be funny...Good for dvd's... Hell, have the computer behind that, and have that control everything it can possibly control...
Hmm...Giving myself some ideas here now... I'm pretty sure I can make that thing do whatever the hell I want...hmm...I'm good with comps/electronics...hmmm...
Now the only problem is getting that thing to FIT... LOL = not practical at ALL...hehe..
I'm blabbering...I'll shut up now

I have exactly that in my car, and it is definately not practical. I have a 15 inch computer lcd lying in the back seat that I hook up and set in the front seat when I need to use it. I've got hondata so what I mainly use it for is datalogging and tuning, plus for playing mp3s on longer trips. I got the LCD for $250 after a rebate at staples, and it's a philips (very good quality). I already had the computer and wasn't using it, and it's plenty fast (runs at almost 1000 MHz, 256 ram, 60 gig hard drive). I have some pictures up from when I was first installing it at http://www.geminisector.com.
If anyone has any ideas on mounting the lcd, let me know. And things are mounted in the trunk much better now then those pictures show. I'll updata the pictures tomorrow.

It'll make more sense when you see the finished pictures. Basically I mounted the motherboard tray from a computer case to my sub box and put the motherboard with everything on it right there. The tray has no spaces for drives, of course, so I used the hard drive box it came in. The box is full of foam packaging so the drive is shielded from most of the vibrations of a moving car.
I'll try and get some more pictures soon and update the site with more info.
