Default Kill Switch drains battery instantly

So I installed this kill switch, http://causeforalarm.thecarthing.com...ill/index.html, on my 93 civic yesterday and since than I have been having an issue with my battery. Now, I have installed the exact same switch on my old 93 civic and wired it exactly the same and it worked great but now this one is having issues. When I get in my car everything seems to be working fine meaning the dome light comes on and the alarm light but as soon as I try to turn the car on I hear a loud click from the engine bay and everything goes dead instantly and I have to jump the car. The only way it works is when I remove the kill switch. Any ideas what could be going wrong? Thanks!

So you did this on the plug connector next to the clutch master cylinder correct?

How do you have the relay wired exactly?

Do you have a multimeter?

This post was brought to my attention but just know that I don't check these forums anymore. Send me an email and describe your work in detail and/or send pictures so I can help you out.

I dont have a multimeter on me. And I am not saying it is an issue with your setup. I think your site is great! I used this same kill on my other car and worked great and used your site for my alarm install with success. I wired it just as you show on your site except I like my switch set as always open rather than always closed. Other than that it is the same. Could it be a ground issue? Would a bad ground drain the battery like that? Thanks.

I haven't looked at his site but you say always open how are you accomplishing that? Are you leaving the relay energized? If you are that's about 800mA of constant drain on the battery.

Second you say "instantly" I know of nothing that can kill a car battery instantly other then shorting the two posts together or having a worn out battery. Define instantly.

Update, I brought my car to autozone to have the battery tested and teh battery is fully charged. Im beginning to think something with the ignition shorted out. Now the car wont start at all even with a jump. The battery is fully charged yet nothing turns on on the car at all. It is completely dead. Any thoughts? Ignition issues? Could it be the ignition switch? Thanks!

When you put the key in and turn it on, does the cluster light up?

So I was able to jump start the car again but as soon as I shut it off its completely dead again. Nothing. What can I check? Where should I start?

if your batt is good as they say and no corrosion then you can start by checking the main fuses starting from the exterior box then to the interior

Check the main ground from the battery to the car. Make sure its tight and clean. MAke sure the postive of the battery is not loose and at the fuse pannel under the the hood.

I checked all fuses, or at least the main pertanent ones, such as the battery, ignition and starter and such and they all seem fine. All grounds are tight are secure and no corrosion. I thought at first it was maybe the ignition switch but that wouldnt explain why the domelight doesnt even come on when I open the door. Im leaning more towards the power not getting from the battery to the car. Any other thoughts? Oh and the connection to the positive is nice and tight.

If you made sure that the battery was good and all connections. Can you test the inside fuse box for 12 volts. Power comes from the main fuse box under the hood and is sent directly to the fuse box in the car. Your issues might lie there.

I brought the battery to autozone and a guy checked it really quick in my car and said it was fine, however I am going to remove it and take it in tonight and have them charge it up. I will also clean the terminals, double check all fuses and check connections once more as well as the one to the inner fuse box. Hopefully I can figure this out. It sucks taking my wifes car from her while mine sits useless.

You have a connection problem, either a main ground or power connection is bad.

You said... "When I get in my car everything seems to be working fine meaning the dome light comes on and the alarm light but as soon as I try to turn the car on I hear a loud click from the engine bay and everything goes dead instantly" that indicates a poor connection, the connection can "carry" the lower load, [dome light, alarm light] but as soon as a bigger load is added, [ign., starter] the connection arks and breaks.

You need to check all main connections, starting with the grounds, remove the batt. cables and clean both the batt. posts and the cable clamps, find and do the same with the batt. to chassis ground and the chassis to engine ground, DO NOT just eyeball the connections, remove/undo and clean them, even if they "look" good.

If doing the grounds does not fix the problem, do the same with the main powers, disconnect, clean and reconnect.

I would also try another batt., you said,..."I brought my car to autozone to have the battery tested and teh battery is fully charged" how was it tested, was it tested under load, a batt. with a broken post connection will test as good, [full charge] when tested without a load, as soon as load is applied the connection is broken.
Just had to fix that on my sisters car, Interstate batt. tested good, even under load when testing at the top posts but lost continuity when testing under load on the side posts, [dual post batt.], the symptoms were the same as yours, dome light and cluster lights worked until she tried to start the car, then everything went dead.

Broken post connections are most common on top post batt., [like we have in our Honda/Acuras. 94

FCM, you were completely right. It was the ground wire connection where it connects to the end ring. it was corroded and needed tending to. And WRX, thank you so much for the offer. You, FCM and suspendedhatch are like my inspirations to install my own alarm and I look up to all 3 of you. Would have loved to meet you in person and really do appreciate the offer! Thanks all!
