Default how to wire a voltmeter

Hey i have a voltmeter gauge laying and want to hook it up. Can andyone give me some directions as to how to go about doing this. Thanks.

kinda dumb question, i mean if you have to ask that, you should not be doing this yourself.

Anyway, 3 wires, one for lighting, 1 for ground and 1 for 12v source. Thats it.

sorry. The one i have only has 2 wires. I already tried that. Didn't work. Theres a red wire and a black one. I tried wiring it up to the ground...and tot he 12v source...didn't work.

I wired it up to the batter and it worked. The other way though...12v and ground..no show.

Where are you tapping 12v and where are you getting your ground from?

ground was either bare metal from the chasis or either a ground source. I used the 12v from the stereo...and then from the cig ligher. I have my Air/Fuel gauge tapped into the stereo power wires. The stereo is directly tapped straight to the battery so i have the one coming from the harness free.

Also when i grounded the wire straight to the chassy the wire go really hot and melted.

DONT WIRE IT TO THE CONSTANT 12V JUST WIRE IT TO UR ASSESSORY WIRE...

YEA JUST GET IT FROM THE STEREO HARNESS EASYER NO NEED GETTIN IT FROM THE INGITION

i give up. I tried doing it the way the guy up top said...it kept blowing the fuse. This has happend 4 times.
