I agree, we are seeing masked computers(navigation, software car control menu) in high end cars already. I used this one with medium configuration http://www.cappuccinopc.com/cappuccinoez3.asp

I have an old version I think of the same software you are running. It's a really nice setup. Where did you download it from?

Do u mean mediaCar, or the Navigation, I bought the navigation software for $109 from http://www.rayming.com, but I think you mean the Media Center Software, yea, its been out for a while, the cool thing is that people keep coming up with newer skins. So I got that alphine Honda skin, the old default skin got boring. For software, there are numerous frontends, I'm using Media Car, but there is a whole list of Free cooler ones available here. http://www.mp3car.com/vbulleti...?f=60.
Try frodoplayer too.

I like the install....good work

I want to tackle something like this, but dont really want to have an LCD sticking out all the time. The other alternative is to buy one of the flipping face units but those cost about 5 times more....

Thanks..
Yea thats true, those flip-outs/standalone cost as much as my whole computer sys together( I was about to get the pioneer AVIC or something unit), but it cost like $1500, and I wasen't so impressed compared to having standalone PC for less the price + upgradeablity and better software.
Also the main screen problem is that you cant use regular TV screen with RCA, because the computer text is not readable with RCA(kinda like when u connect PC to TV), and also there is no touchscreen effect, so you have to have some sorta additional wireless mouse or something which can be inconvinient. The screen I'm using has 1VGA input for PC, and 2 RCA inputs/channels for regular video feed.

These guys have some in dash flip out mechanical unit that mounts most standard 7" screens. http://www.digitalww.com

I was talking about media car software. Are they charging for it now? It was free when I downloaded it.

I see that people on mp3car either use iGuidance or Routis 04. Any particular reason they dont use the micro-crap software? Im trying to download Microsoft Streets and Trips 2005 to see if its any good

A lot of people dont like microsoft because it either makes you use their software or something else thats based off of other programs than just the reputation. My dad gave me mappoint 2002, this was 2 or 3 years ago, my first reaction was since when does MS make map software. After loading it, I thought it was a pretty good program, essentially a mapquest on your hard drive. I never really considered getting a USB GPS reciever. The only problem I found was that it had no easy way of selecting a specific road to take on your trip from point A to C. The way around it was to make a point B a point of interest on your trip next to the road that you want and it would then most likely use that road rather than back you out.

I want to see what these other software programs are like, maybe they are just that much better since MS doesnt really speciallize in this stuff.

Yea, its still free. Actually you should try out the other free ones posted on MP3 car, they've really improved over media car a lot. FrodoPlayer , Media Engine , the one with phonecontrol, voice control e.t.c so many of them. Actually I think FrodoPlayer even has webcam/video screen for like reverse camera, and also support for like TV input and FM. I'm gonna be trying out a lot of them, I've just been so busy.

lol.

Here's my experience, as I've used both.

Microsoft Streets and trips is just a mapquest, pretty much on your computer. It also shows moving display of your car on the map.

However, when you are in the car, as a driver you need more than that. Here are the reasons why most people on mp3 car use iguidiance & routis over MS streets.
(oh, I think Iguidance is the upgraded version of routis, as it is from same company).

With I guidiance it automatically recalculates and redraws your route, once you miss turn. Even cool, it tells you via voice (e.g "make u turn when possible", "take next right" e.t.c) A must have feature for speedy racers.

It has different views of the map, including the (best I like) 3D view, so u get better feel of environment.

Its maps include terrain information, so on the 3D map u see water (e.g accross bridge), you see like green for parks e.t.c. It even shows like (elevation) going up a hill e.t.c(not 100% all the time though)

Oh heres another cool one, it zooms in when you are about to make turn, I think the cooolest thing is the voice, so u dont have to look at the screen every time, It'll tell u like "drive for the next 5 miles", "bear left unto 95 south", "enter freeway on left" It gives u speed warning(if u enable it)
e.t.c e.t.c,

Oh lastly too, when u want to enter address, it pops up a keyboard on the screen, and like automatically guesses you entries, e.g city, state, e.t.c

Just so much features..... So if u wanna do it right, go with iguidance, also it includes Pocket PC version, So you can do all this too off a PDA in the car.(i dont like small screen though, but cheaper way to go.)

Is there any full screen mode for iGuidance to get rid of its borders while being used?

Never had hardware problem. I think the most annoying thing that has pissed most lilliput owners is the software drivers for the touchscreen(mouse), there were so many versions out there, that worked differently, sometimes the computer would not find it anymore, and the damn software didn't uninstall correctly either and caused conflict with new version. But eventually I downloaded the correct driver, from some link on mp3car, and its never gave problem since then.

As for iguidance, I think thats as full as it gets, it has all this other screens though that u dont see, I just disabled them, its gat the GPS info screen, that shows speed, gps satellites e.t.c, then its gat the other one that shows the turn by turn in text. Kinda like the route list when you do a mapquest.
