How is the new Alpine 9855 deck?
It has that strip where you move your finger across it to make it go up or down... or something like that.
I had my eyes set on the 9835 but I now see the 9855. Anyone have it and can you comment on it?

I've been downloading full Albums with Bit Torrent. Can I burn an MP3 into sections? I just want to take 1 cd folder with all the songs and burn them, I have 12 albums or folders with songs in them. Will the MP3 headunit read them?

ive got the 9835, its a great deck for the price. dunno about the the newest deck, ive heard bad things about it like build quality and i believe it has a weaker internal amp compared to the 9835. but that only applies to you if you run it. and msrp on that deck is 500, compared to the 9815 and the 9835 at 600. so something had to go???

What features are you referring to?
9835 vs. 9855 (it's not really a real comparison, it's more of a "should i buy 9835 or wait for the 9855)

Hey GSR David, I work at Best Buy and we are expecting to get the 9855 in. I myself am personally waiting to see it before deciding if I want to buy it or not. I don't care for the blue tint and pixel display on the 9853 (not sure if it can be changed or not), but from pictures it looks like the 9855 will have a very nice display. I read somehwere that they pushed back the release date of the 9855, I'm not sure if that's true or not. But currently at Best Buy, that's the only Alpine deck we're still waiting on.
The 9835 is a better unit. For the 9855 they scrapped the V-drive amp, the DC-DC converter, you can no longer tilt with the touch of a button, the tilt is no longer on the remote. Excluding the F#1, the 9835 was the flagship unit, this is not the case with the 9855.
Also, Alpine is getting to be more mainstream, which is bad. If you want a better unit than the alpine, look into Eclipse. I went from Alpine to Eclipse (CD5444) because of the promise of better sound quality. If you're just another dumbass ricer "basshead" who thinks your cool with your 2 Sony Xplod subs and "1000 watt" amp, and thinks that the 135 dB that you impress your ricer friends with is awesome, dont waste your money. If you actually appreciate good sound, you wont find much better than eclipse (unless you start looking at Units for $1000+)

wtf are you going to use the eq setting if you are not running a speaker amp because you won't notice a differasne with the eq change over or cut off point
I have had the 9855 for a few weeks now and it's a great unit. I can do without the glide bar though. Kinda hard to use. When searching the ipod, it is easier on the 9851 with the volume ****. The glide bar is kinda touchy and in a lowered car you really need to be able to rest your hand on something to get good control.
The only other thing I would like is a color screen. The display is sweet but looks a little dull just being black and white.

With 4 good speakers it sounds great.

the comestics are even NICER than the 9855, the black is classy. it looks better than the 9835 and the glide touch is a nice, cool feature, although i am still trying to get used to the one of the 9853 we have a work. the biolite display is hot. the parametric eq is hot. the crossover section is hot. using that in conjunction with biampable passives from your components and the active crossovers built into your amps will give you plenty control over a tweeter, mid and sub 3 way system. most people would never use the deck and amps processing capbilities to their fullest anyway. 99.99% of the population can't hear the difference between an outboard dc/dc converter anyway and as far as the power goes, maybe it lost the V-drive, but it should be connected to an external amp anyway. And the deck is $450 MSRP this year, while the 9835 was $550 MSRP. with the money you save you can pick up sirius (SIRALP1) or the ipod KCA420i controller.
best deck for under $500 mrsp hands down: 2005 Alpine CDA9855.

It's in Best Buy. Go rub that little white strip (glidetouch) and see if you like how it works. Seems ok to me, nothing I'd pay for tho

We don't have the 9855 year. We have the 9853 which has the glide touch, I dont like it personally, but whatever floats your boat. The 9853 has some nice features, time correction, media xpander, etc. I work at Best Buy by the way.
