Default How to match an amp to subs?

My brother has been trying to put a stereo together, and it's helped me realize how little I know about setting up subs.

He bought two (2) Audiobahn Alum12Q subs, and wants to know what amp will power them appropriately. I suppose I'll leave the question open ended and see what ya'll say.

Thanks!

amp's RMS should be 3/4 of the peak power of your sub.

to be perfectly honest. if your brother still has a chance to return the audiobahns, i'd suggest it. let me or h-t know what kind of money range you're working with and i can recommend a better sub. audiobahns just aren't really that great.

I haven't had any experience with them either way. I'm kind of afraid he bought them because he thinks their bling. He got them off of Ebay, so he can't return them, but he got a good deal (I think..~$150 for both)

As for a price range, he said the cheaper the better, obviously, but ~$400 is what he was hoping to stay under. I keep trying to tell him he needs to build the rest of the system to match, but what do I know.

Don't skimp on the amp, don't clip the signal, then throw as much clean power as you can at them. There is no magical number. Most manufacturers ratings are a useful guide, but often are just thermal ratings.

problem with audiobahn is that they take a **** load of power and are dirt cheap. they're cheap BECAUSE they are cheap. what i'm saying is that this is NOT a quality sub. it'll take the power, but it can never play as well as an expensive sub. why not just get an audiobahn amp?
