I'm looking for a high output alternator for my 96 1.8gsr I've searched h-t and have come up with ohio generator, I'll be emailing them soon. So for those of you that have a high output alternator, what brand is it? how much was it? and how much amperage does it put out?
Thanks

looking for something that puts out 180 amps unless the 150 is really underated. any other experiences?recommendations?comments?
I just purchased a 180-amp alternator from Iraggi Alternator. It wasn't cheap, but I've heard great things about Dominick Iraggi's work. It is a direct bolt-in alternator made from a brand new Acura part, no special brackets, pulleys, or belts.
Dom makes all the alternators on a per order basis, so there's nothing quick about it. If you are in a hurry, you'd probably want to go another route. but if you want one of the best and are willing to be patient, Iraggi Alternator makes a top notch piece... or so I've heard.
Hopefully I'll be installing this alternator, a new battery, and doing the big 3 upgrade this weekend. I'll post my results as soon as I'm done with the alternator and subsequent stereo install. Until I put a load on it, I probably won't have much to report.

Yeah, but on ebay, it only comes with a limited time warranty whereas from the website, you pay a little more but comes with lifetime warranty.

What do these alts put out at idle?
This is like comparing RMS voltage to MAX.
300A is nothing if the alternator can't produce that until 6k rpm.

My 180-amp alt is supposed to do 110 at idle. That's one of the reasons I chose Iraggi Alt.

Where can I find this Iraggi Alternator? And how much does it sell for?

You can email Dom at dominick@tds.net... remember to be patient, it sometimes takes a few days to hear back from him. Once I decided to buy Dom's services, I sent him a money order. Just under 4 weeks later my alternator arrived. It would probably have gone a little faster but with Christmas and New Years in those 4 weeks I can understnad why it took so long.
Here's my suggestion... search for the name Dominick Iraggi through Google. You'll find some posts where people are freaking out because they haven't heard from him for a few days or they feel like they've been waiting too long for their alternators. But you'll also find a lot of stuff about him competing in sound offs, etc. He knows what a car audio enthusiast needs. He's won contests and held records. He also very busy. If you want an HO alternator by next weekend, choose someone else. If you want a very good HO alternator that's custom made for your vehicle and are willing to wait a few weeks for it, send Dom an email.
As for the cost, it'll all depend on your car model and what amperage you choose. My 180-amp Iraggi HO alt for my Integra cost $350 plus shipping ($366.21).

i would preffer a shop because most will have warranty, and if something were to go wrong a shop would be a little easier to get in contact with. more peace of mind on my end.

My Iraggi Alt has a 1-year warranty... but I understand if you want to get your alt from a shop. If my Iraggi alt fails, I'll just plug my stock alt back in and call Dom. Sure, it'll take more time to ship off and get back... and while I wait I'll just have to take it easy playing my system.

This from a guy who has yet to install his new Iraggi HO Alternator. I was planning to do that today, but am just learning that the removal of the alternator is not an easy thing on an Integra (from reading team-integra's board).
This project may have to wait for me to get more info on actually getting the stock alternator out of the engine bay.

hey 99IntegraGS is there another way to pay him? I'd rather not do a money order, no matter how many people can vouch for someone I still fear getting scammed. not saying he would do that but I'm just really cautious.
I'll probably try emailing him when I'm ready just need a reputable source for a high output alternator.
Thanks for everyones input feel free to add.

He used to accept Paypal, but he was having problems or was not happy with them. I'm not sure if he's got any other way for you to pay.
BTW, update on my alt: I'm not sure he sent me the right alternator. When I first opened the box I thought the pulley looked strange and now that I've thought about it and asked on a few Honda/Acura boards I think it is indeed the wrong pulley. I am also concerned that the plastic connector in the back is wrong as well, so the odds are looking like he probably sent my alternator to someone else and their alt to me.
I emailed Dom late last night and again this morning. I am planning to go by the local Acura dealer to talk to the parts guys to see if they can show me a replacement alt for my car. That way I can confirm without any doubt that this is not the right alternator:

Already sent those pics to him.
I'm also taking it to an auto parts place tomorrow to compare it to a stock Integra alternator. If the connector is the same and only the pulley is wrong I'll have them change the pulley for me.

Well, the connector was correct, the pulley quite different. I emailed Dominick Iraggi and he said he knew the pulley was smaller... that I might have to get a shorter belt. My complaint was not about the diameter of the pulley, but the width of the channel where the belt rides.
So, after comparing the Iraggi alt with a stock one at Carquest auto parts, here's what I saw:

http://theterritory.servebeer....2.jpg
http://theterritory.servebeer....3.jpg
Carquest didn't have a 4 groove pulley the same diameter as the one on the Iraggi alt, so they sent me to an Alternator shop just up the road. Old man Jones of Jones' Alternators told me he wouldn't sweat it... just put the belt on the inside of the 6 groove pulley and go with it. He said he doubted he could get me the 4-groove one in that diameter.
I'm guessing the reason for such as small diameter pulley is to speed up the turning of the alternator.
Anyone have experience using a pulley too wide for the belt?

To the guys that have changed to the high output alternator:
- Did you do it because it was needed or just actually wanted?
- What was your setup when you saw the need for it and what was the car doing to lead you to believe it was time?
- I don't know a bunch about Hondas but do the better equipped cars with power everything have a better alternator that would negate the need for an upgrade?
- Would you still need it if you weren't playing LOUD for a long period of time?
Reason I ask is I was going to install a Kicker 800.4 four channel amp and D-class 600.1 amp in my Civic (see sig) and don't know if I will run into a charging issue I can't overcome with just running the equipment right (playing loud too long or not letting the battery charge back up). I have a well optioned car so I thought it would have a higher output alternator?

well it depends on your setup, I feel it is needed if you're running a high power amp(1,000 watts +) plus if you're running fogs and other accessories (gauges, etc).
for your second question I'm planning on running 2,000 watts for my whole system and I know the stock alternator can't handle even with a cap.
And no, better equipped hondas don't have higher output alternators, there's just not enough power draw to need one.
If you're not playing loud for a long time (depending on your setup) a cap should keep everything in check but an upgrade in alternator would be good, to be safe.
