Head unit question
I just picked up a new eg2.
94 del sol
It has some awful head unit installed.
I have an OEM unit with 6 disk changer. Wondering what the quality difference is?
Is there any way to get an OEM unit to sound good?
Also, is there a way to wire up a aux / usb input on an OEM head unit?

MM&Y of car please, eg2 is pretty much meaningless.
The limiting factor with OEM HUs is there lack of power, [RMS watts], adding something like a JL Audio CleanSweep...

... will allow you to add amps and better speakers for a much better sound from you OEM HU. 94

OIC you have the 6 disc changer...
Attachment 305879
... not the 6 disc in-dash.
That is made for Honda by Alpine, good unit.
I believe Peripheral or or one of the OEM radio integration companies make the adapter the that allows you to plug into the CD changer port and then plug the changer into the adapter so it gives you an AUX input.
But again, without adding something like the CleanSweep, SQ will never be that good and definatly low SPL.
As mentioned, you would be far better off with an aftermarket HU, if your looking to improve SQ and SPL.
With that said, after more then 35 years in the car audio install business and and more then a few "systems" from entry level to competition, I have now found, [PicknPull] an OEM DD AM/FM/Cass. with changer control, [from a Legend] that I installed in my 94 Integra RS and have my Alpine changer plugged into, I kind of like the OEM look. 94

That's a bummer. $400 for the cleansweep interface?
Yeah I've got the OEM AM/FM/Cass unit with 6 disk changer in the storage compartment.
Currently has some pioneer head unit with blutooth and 4x pioneer speakers no tweeters.
Going to remove everything becasue it sounds like complete garbage. All treble if type sound if you know what i mean.
Going to have to do some research I suppose. Not looking for competition car audio. Just a decent sound for a DD.

Cliffs......... Dont want aftermarket headunit.. Wants good sound quality with oem 12 watts output factory headunit. Does not want to use aftermarket products that cost more then a entey level decient headunit...
Sorry. You can research all you want till you find someone thats going to tell you what you want to hear. But no matter what its still going to sound like garbage. The only thing you can do ia find some low wattage speakers or some new factory speakers.
List the pioneer model headunit and speakers in the car. More then anything you have the headunit setup wrong and some factory replacement pioneer speakers. Or there not installed right.

Couldn't be me wrong on the cliffs.
I have no problem spending the money. I do however, have a problem with spending that amount of money if the sound quality doesn't improve that much.
As in, if a $400 aftermarket head unit, amp and speaker setup will out preform my stock head unit with the interface then maybe I need to rethink the idea of using the OEM unit.
Thus, more research needed.

The first thing I would look at is the speakers you have, if all you are hearing is treble, "All treble if type sound if you know what i mean" it tells me either you have blown speakers, [woofer VCs of coax speakers] or poorly installed speakers, speakers wired out of phase or a combination of the above.
An aftermarket Pioneer HU will be "high power", [3-4 times the stock HUs RMS wattage] and will definitely outperform the stock HU, [even on stock speakers].
However, no matter how good the aftermarket speakers are, if they are not installed/wired properly they will sound like dodo.
The things to look for...
Is the speaker mounted flush/flat?
Any gaps, warps, missing mounting screws?
If you press on the cone does it move freely in and out without any scraping sound?
Is there an airtight seal around the speaker?
Check phasing, you can do that by just balancing all the way to the left and right, if bass response is any better when all the way to the left or right, the speakers are wired out of phase, counseling bass and SPL. 94
