Good sound quality setup
I recently eliminated the subwoofer box from my car and now I'm left with 4 so so aftermarket speakers that dont make for a very good sounding system.
I have a pioneer headunit, pioneer 6x9 speakers in the back, and a set of pioneer 6.5" speakers up front. (This is in a 1996 Civic Coupe)
I know the 6x9's are fine for rear stage while being powered by the headunit. What I'm looking for is a separate 6.5" component system for the front and an amp (dont know how much power I need for this) to power it. I wan nice midbass reponse, loudness, and crisp sound.
Would you guys suggest some components and amplifiers for this type of application? I've been out of the audio thing for awhile so I have no idea about the prices or anything. I'm looking for something decent but not too expensive.
Thanks

yeah, give us some sort of a price range here.. i am a HUGE fan of MB Quart components but they can be pricey.. and i also dont agree with the pioneer 6x9s either.. dont like pioneer at all.. sorta like a wal-mart brand thing if you get what i mean.. you are looking for sound QUALITY so look for a brand that has made a name for great sound along with great quality.. i think MB Quart can vouch for that..

hmmm. maybe look into a set of alpine components or maybe kenwood?

mb quart reference component speakers are probably the best speakers on the market.. i have mb quart discus series which is the series below reference and they would have ran me 369 per set if i didnt get ten % over cost at my sound dealer.. but i would recommend those for sure if you wanted to spend the money.. i LOVE my mb's

one thing about the MB's lower line is their tweeters may not be as smooth as you want. Some will say they are fatiguing and your ears will not like you anymore.
I would go for JL Audio's component if you want something a bit smoother, that is if you already heard the MB's and you like them.

do you plan on buying from a dealer with warranty or do you not really care?</TD></TR></TABLE>
I dont really care, ebay would even be fine. What do you think I should have as far as budget goes for a decent system (4chx50w rms and a component set) ???
I would rather wait and save up than get something crappy now

Okay here is an idea...but the choice is all up to you.
-radio ... its real world output is about 18-22 watts rms with no distortion.
this will do fine to run the rear speakers.
- front 6.5 comps... way to many options here from alpine to zapco. I say shop around try to hear any if you can. Brands that have proven themselves as a great
value: DEI,Alpine,MTX,JL,Kicker,Kenwood,Pioneer,MbQuart,P olk Audio,Boston Acoustics,PPI ( the list can go on). All these manufactures has an "entry level"
speaker set that will work great in your application. Now there are many choices
from manufactures that I havent listed. My advice would be to check your Local
car audio dealer (Ma & Pa as well as chain stores) because around this time of
year many closeouts and great buys are offered a really great prices.
- amps...I would suggest a 4 channel amp with built in xover ( fixed is okay adjustable is the **** ), Basically something with 40-60 watts per channel (120-250
bridged). This will drive those front comps well. Now depending on space issues,
this will dictate the amps size. You can have it under a seat or as part of a rack -
subbox setup (drop rear seat...see amp ). The choice is up to you..many choices
out there...great bangs for buck...MTX,Kicker,Alpine,DEI. Just shop around.
- Subs.... Yes you just got rid of a box ( don't know the reasons) but a box is not
just a box. You may have had a ported or bandpass style with gobbled up all
your trunk space..im not sure. You have approx 3 cu ft of space to play with
in your trunk that will still leave you a trunk. This gives you room for a sub or two.
I would suggest having the box built that way it can be tailored to give you all
you much need space or you can do an off the shelf...choice is yours. One thing to
keep in mind is the amps min load impedance : what can this stable to while
in bridged mode...(in this case 4 ohms).
There you have it a few ideas...it should sound good in your car. enjoy

Thanks for such detailed information. I went to the local shop yesterday and picked up the speakers, just waiting till next week to install them.
So far I have a Phoenix Gold OctaneR8:0:4 4ch Amp. It puts out 75W RMS x 4 @ 4ohms or 250w rms x 2 @ 4ohm. For speakers I picked up some CDT's CL61 Classics. I heard the at the shop and liked the way they sounded and for 140 bucks I dont think I could have done much better.
Now I'm wondering, should I just use the amp on all 4 speakers (75x4) and just turn the gain down on the rears, or bidge it to 250x2 and just keep the gain down???
Also what do you think of the setup overall??? Should it put out decent sound?? I got a chance to hear the speakers but I dont know what amp they had pushing it.

Definitely, I'm gonna install the amp and run all the speaker wires monday and then the shop told me they would have the speakers wednesday (they didnt have them instock). So as soon as the speakers are here I'll be able to just install them.
One thing I'm wondering is if they're gonna fit in my doors??? I have a 1996 civic and the speakers are 2 3/8 deep. Anyone know mounting depth for civics??
Also, need to know where to put my crossovers?? I'm installing the amp in the back of the rear seat, would that be a good place for the crossovers too?? Where would be the best location for tweeters??? Close to the 6.5" driver or higher up on the door???
Sorry for so many questions... I want to do this right.

Im not sure on the mounting depth u might have to make some spacers so that the magnet will allow the window to roll down .I think mounting the crossovers on the back seat by the amp would be fine .As far tweeter placement I think you want to mount it right above the driver if possible
