Default DVC Question

I have an amp that runs 4 ohm stable but I have a 4 ohm DVC sub. My options for DVC would only be 2 ohm or 8 ohm. If i run it at 8 ohms will i be losing bass? On the other hand, if I ran only one voice coil at 4 ohms will i lose bass also? I know that the amp would run cooler at 8 ohms but what setup would you guys suggest?

btw...don't really have funds to buy a 2 ohm stable amp at the moment.

thanks in advance!!

Well, you can't EVER run just one coil in a DVC sub, and your amp won't handle 2Ohm...so yes it looks as though you have one option.

cool thanks.....i guess i'll just save up for a 2 ohm or 1 ohm stable amp. its pounding hard as **** right now running it at 8 ohms maybe cuz its a solobaric in a port tuned box. but anyways i'll just save up for another amp. if the sub blows with my current 8 ohm setup i will just bring back in since i have an extended warranty. the store i deal with has a "no questions asked" warranty and never gave me any problems.

I don't think you will have a problem with the amp running an 8ohm load, the problem would be with the speaker if you overdrive the amp, you can damage the VCs on the speaker. 94

I have to comment on this, you CAN run one voice coil, you power handling will be cut in half. (why anyone would want to do this *shrug*)

You can also hook a channel up to each voice coil. Although there may be some difference in output it doesn't matter. The difference will be converted into heat, as long as you speaker has the necessary power handling capabilities your fine. A 300w speaker can dissapate 300W it doesn't matter if 10W comes from heat generated by the difference in output.

yea. many times i have ran my idmax dual 4 with just one coil just because i had a 2 channel amp that was only 4ohm mono stable. at 4ohm mono, it produced a maximum output of 100w. If I had hooked up one coil to each channel, I would have gotten ~50w total.

The response should be a bit peakier at certain frequencies since the the motor force is cut in half with the same stiffness in suspension.
