Do I need a wiring harness?
I know this is basic, but I need to know if I need (should) get a wiring harness for a Pioneer single-disc CD player. The problem is, I haven't seen the back of the CD player because I ordered it online, so I don't know if the factory plug will mate up to the new unit. If I need the harness, I want to know in advance so I don't have to run across town to Best Buy to get a harness when I finally get around to installing my CD player at 1am the day it finally comes in. BTW, my car is a 93 Integra. Thanks for the help. Also, if it matters, the CD player model number is Peioneer DEH-P4500MP.

does your car still have a warranty? if so yes use a harness... hard wiring can void the warranty in some cars
if your not familiar with how to wire up a stereo i would say use a harness its pretty hard to screw up then..

Buy a harness. They're only about 10 bux and will save you much headaches while installing, AND will allow you to reinstall the factory HU (if you deicde to) later on.
go here:

Look up your car for all info, and yes, go buy the harness. Also make sure to either solder all connections and shrink wrap them or use some solderless terminals.

i completely agree. i've seen installs done by just twisting the wire together and then wraping it with electrical tape. definately not the best way to do things. with the ways suggested here you get a much tighter connection.

Thanks for the advice guys, it's well taken. I'll get the harness... I figure I'll want to take my CD player if / when I sell the car, not to mention it's easier to plug the factory plug into another plug then into the player than it is to splice up a bird's nest while laying on my back in my passenger side footwell in the Florida heat
