Do I need a relay?
I am installing a AutoPage C3RS-730 into my 95 Accord manual (I'm not using the remote start feature). The dome light output has -200ma and when I run the wire from the car side to the ground from the domelight harness, it turns on the domelight. I ran the wire from the headlights switch to the ground and the headlights turn on. I probed both of these wires and with both off, they are giving out 12 volts but when turned on, they go to 0. I hooked these wires up to the alarm with diodes and they work perfectly. My question is, do I really need a relay? Reason I ask because I researched posts from Desmond, SuspendedHatch, and Vegas10, causeforalarm.com, 12volt.com, etc and they all use relays. This was taken from Vegas10 stealth install thread: Relay wiring:
For headlight flash:
- Pole 85 hooks up to the black/white dome light supervision FROM the alarm
- Pole 87 goes to constant 12 volts
- Pole 86 goes to constant 12 volts
- Pole 30 goes to the headlight wire in the car. I use the high beam wire. You may not want to use if you have HIDs
When I initially hooked it up that way, they didn't flash. Since most of the people I mentioned above use DEI, I was wondering if DEI alarms maybe gave off a positive 200MA instead of negative 200MA like AutoPage. So the question still stands, do I need a relay...
Thanks for any help!

Not sure I understand???
Your using the dome light supervision control to turn on the cars high beams, if so why.
You should be using the cars park lights for "flash", [flash when arm/disarm and during alarming.
Park lights are 12V+ at park light free pin on under dash fuse box.
A relay should always be used when the control output is a low current pos.(+) or neg.(-), the only exception is when the load is already relay controlled.
So first question is why are you using the high beams?
Also you said, "For headlight flash" but you are using dome light supervision, DLS does not flash the lights, it turns them on for 30 sec., [or so] when alarm is disarmed, or is that what you are trying to do?
The dome light on your car is a ground control, no relay is used as the current is relatively low, it sounds like the head lights, [high beams] are also a ground control from the head light switch, a relay, [OEM] must be used as current is relatively high] if that is the case an off-board relay is not needed.
When probing the dome light lead and head light leads you grounded to turn the dome and head lights on with both off, they will test as 12V+ as you are reading the 12V+ on the other side of the load, in the case of the dome light it is the 12V+ on the othewr side of the light bulb, in the case of the head lights it is the 12V+ on the other side of the head light relays coil. 94

Thanks for the response.
I am using the low beam headlights and not the high beams. I should have stated this in the beginning. I read in one of your post before that the hi-beams aren't made to blink that way.
I am using the dome light supervision for the low beam headlights and the dome supervision. The only time the dome light supervision is utilized is when its disarmed or alarm is triggered. It seems the low beam headlights has a relay of its on under the hood because I hear the clicking of the relay when they are powered on when I disarm the alarm or full trigger of the alarm.
Should I remove the headlights from the domelight supervision of the alarm and place a relay on it with the flashing parking light output of the alarm? Thanks

I removed the headlights from the domelight supervision and added a relay that converts positive to a negative and hooked the headlights to this. I tapped the relay with the headlight output from the alarm. Thanks
