DEI (508D) Proximity Sensor
So I got a DEI Viper (508D) Proximity Sensor, for cheap as hell so I intalled it but today after coming home it would just do the "warning" chirps about every 2 mins or so until I disarmed it. What could be causing this, there is nothing around it, it is in a garage, and I already know the 508d is a pos, but it was cheap.
the 508d is not a POS. most people cant comprehend the instructions, and the instructions do not tell you that after 20 mins of not picking up movement it goes into hyper sensetive mode and expands the beams. also do you have a radar detector or anything near it emitting a radar field?
Right now I've got the sensitivity **** at about half way, I've got to pretty much touch the door before it chirps, I've got a radar detector but its not on. Where do you guys have your adjustment ***** set at?
i think mine are set somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 but the setting will depend on the car and the mounting. do you have window film that has any kind of metal in it? i just did a teg for a guy, it worked perfect until he rolled his windows up. then nothing except through the windshield. his tint was blocking it.
Mine is mounted under the e brake handle, I don't have metal tint either. Do you have any idea why it would just be chirping for no reason? How far does the "hyper" sensitivity extend the range? Thanks for the help
There can be no metal above the sensor, [like the metal in an "E" brake handle].
It works best when mounted no more then 1/4" above a metal surface.
Adjustment is critical to performance.
Keep in mind it is a proximity sensor, it is "looking" for mass moving closer or farther away from it, adjust with windows down, then retest with windows up.
I would also like to know how it is wired to the alarm, and what make and model of alarm.

im not sure how far it extends it. i was given this info from a dei rep and tech at a dei training about 2-3 years back, and he didnt really go into details. he just said to check sensitivity after it sits armed for 20 mins and has not detected any moving objects. like fcm said though, how did you wire it and what model alarm is it hooked to.

I wired the blue and green wires together with to the wire coming out of the shock sensor, I got the info from here http://www.directeddealers.com...4.pdf
Its hooked up to a Viper 5900.

No, just the 508D. Maybe its just because it was in my garage, yesterday I went to work and left it in the back of a parking lot and it was fine, of course the sensitivity is way down too. It was fine in my garage last night too, its just turned down so low I have to jump up and down right next to the door to get it to chirp.
Try turning up the sensitivity a little at a time, you should not have to jump up and down to trigger warn a way mode, a crook is not going to, it should be adjusted so so the outside field extends just past the mirrors, so walking up to the car and looking in the window triggers warn a way mode and sticking your head or hand/arm into the car triggers the full alarming mode.

I'll try that and see how it goes, I am starting to think it has something to do with the gargage, when I can home to day it just started doing the warn away chirping non stop, I went to look at it and there is nothing moving out there. All day today while parked in back of a parking lot it never even chirped.
