I always recommend Alpine head units, they look good, the entry level models have full-speed ipod connection and are user friendly. As far as speakers, subs, and amps it really depends on your budget.

i am a big fan of Kenwood head units, DC Audio subs and amps.

 

kenwood head units, hertz, rainbow, and hybrid audio speakers. arc and dc subs and amps. i'd say start there.
