I dont know from first hand experience, I just know that pretty much any newer alpine... They are like the kings of high quality stuff. also, youll probably wanna change to aftermarket speakers, cause with stock speakers music quality isnt all that great if you have an aftermarket deck.

It's all in the budget. What are you looking to spend TOTAL? Also can you PROPERLY install this equipment yourself or do you need professional installtion. All this will factor into the final cost.

I HAVE A 00 PRELUDE AND PUT AN PIONEER DEH 9200. i THINK ITS LIKE 45W X 4 AND IT MAKE THE STOCK SPEAKERS SOUND LIKE SHIZZLE. YOU HAVE TO GET NEW SPEAKERS IF YOU BUY A NEW HEAD UNIT, IMO. JSUT GET A DECK THAT YOU CAN CONTROL THE LOWS MIDS AND HIGHS AND YOU WILL BE BUTTER.

NOT USING ALL CAPS WOULD BE OFF THE HIZZY...
Also, I thought preludes sometimes had asmall sub and a built in amp OEM... or at least the amp... therefore that is why it would sound worse, not as much power... Someone with more knowledge can correct me if I am wrong.

You dont have to get new speakers if you get a new headunit, its all in what he wants, a new headunit should make them sound better with its slightly more powerful internal amp and much better clarity.

If he still wants more, then some new speakers may help. But the real difference comes from high power amping.

sorry for the caps, wasnt paying attention. My lude didnt have a internal amp, when I hooked up the new unit it maid the speakers way louder and if you Jam to much they will not hold up. This much I know. Now on my exploder I hooked up a pioneer and the stock speakers sound real nice surprisingly. So It might have been my lude speakers were already hammered before I put the deck in. Either way the factory paper speakers wont last long with added power.

For any good sound I highly suggest some kind of amplification that isn't comming from your HU and a nice set of components that are installed properly. Most sets of components don't need more than 50 watts rms to sound good. For bass that is up to you. Most hondas can get their low end filled nicely with a good 10 if you don't want to boom.

I run the Eclipse 8454 into my JL 300/4 and 500/1. The power is distributed to a Focal component set up front, MB Quart's in the rear, and a single JL 12W6V2. I absolutely love the Eclipse head unit...A little pricey at around $600 though.

In my truck I run an Alpine HU and in my Honda Accord EX I run a JVC Aresonal. Both good units but I have to say I like the JVC Aresonal better it sounds cleaner thant the Alpine although the Alpine isn't bad. When demoing HU's I liked the JVC the best then the Alpine second and after that would say Eclipse was my third choice. A few people on here diss JVC Aresonal that have never heard them but I am very picky about stuff and found it to be very good and I know a few other audiophiles including one that owns a car stereo shop that all use them also. They will all tell you that Eclipse JVC Aresonal and Alpine are all great HU's. Most of them like Pioneer and Panasonic ok for basic low end HU's.

simple answer for you, the channels are different independent adjustable signals, it doesnt mean you can only wire up that many speakers, that gets into Ohms, which is a whole other question.
Mono, is 1, generally only for Subs
2 channel, can only be left/right or Front/back adjustable
3 channel, like 2 channel, but generally, included sub amp channel
4 channel, left right, and front rear fade, IE wire up 4 speakers, one to each channel, can adjust their levels for balance and fade.
5 channel, same as 4 plus independent sub..

and so on, and so forth....

That's 45w X 4 channel Max Watts. Your RMS wattage would only be around 20 Rms, if that.

Pioneer Premier DEH-P860MP. MSRP $570 MAP $520 Street $400

13-Band EQ and seperate front and rear x-overs.

The seperate crossovers is great for the 5th gen preludes because the front needs to crossed over much higher than the rear 6*9's.

The 13-Band EQ is perfect for customizing the sound to how YOU want it.

Also, the unit has an Auto-EQ which is pretty fool proof as far as equalizing fairly flat and aligning the speakers to hit your ears at the same time.

The seperate 6.5V front, rear, and sub preouts is a plus if you're gonna use some quality amplifiers later.

Second that. I have had the P900r (older version) since Dec '99. Other than the faded rubber moldings, the head unit has been a good performer. Nice to have everything in a single DIN.

....so what's your budget?

Audiobahn subs= Seems like a lot of the people on here dislike there amps also and I like there sub amps ok there are better ones out there but I like the Audiobahn A8000T but there subs sound like ****. Pioneer makes pretty good HU's but I don't know anything about the 6600. I have never owned or used a Legacy amp but I have heard that they arnt that great either but I don't know too much about them since I haven't used one.

Alpine is the way to go for a headunit. It's what I always recommend to my friends or anyone when they ask. Someone already answered your amp channel question nicely, but as for subs I would go with JL Audio or some of the more expensive Rockford Fosgate subs.

I had 2 10" W3v2's in my accord when I had it and they slammed with a JL 500/1 feeding them. My bro has a 10" W7 with a 500/1 in his accord and the bass is incredible. I've always been really impressed with JL's products so I suggest you check them out.
