Yes their is one that is better I just can't remember which. Do a search I am sure it wouldn't be hard to find. The V1 is a very good radar detector. I have read in review articles it was made by engineers for engineers. Not the prettiest radar but it gets the job done.

the only place I know that you can get it is direct from the manufacturer at http://www.valentine1.com you could get it used or whatever off Ebay i suppose but I dont know if it'd carry the full warranty and everything that way and if they'd upgrade it if you sent it in or not.. I'd just get it from the manufacturer..

I have a BEL 980 I just got it about a week ago and it has already saved my butt enough to pay for itself about 3 times over. It runs around 350$ but I got mine for 250$ off ebay and it came brand new in the box still in the shrink wrap

Escort 8500. Check out http://www.radartest.com and http://www.speedzones.com. Unbiased testing puts it #1. I also have it. Selling this and the 980 every day at work, I can tell you that performance wise the difference is negligible, but the quality of construction and ease of use is way in favor of the Escort.
