Professional thieves are deterred by the Autolock!
the thing that clamps to the pedals

jk... you might want to search the audio/security forum... I know it's a commonly asked question. One thing I do know is that an alarm is only as good as its install. I heard that those places like Good Guys an Circuit City do shoddy installs
I'd shy away from them.edit:
stoopid typos

kinda get an eery feeling when talking about protection on the boards... Usually I just avoid the post but I decided to come in and share my 2 cents. Its a horrible thought but I would assume that theives lurk around these boards, read posts like these, and get info....
I never share how or what my car is protected with or unprotected for that matter. ******* theives

Hmm I guess I'll share my whole security setup since my car was totalled today and my personal setup doesn't matter anymore unless a thief wants to steal a car that looks like an accordian (crumpled and crushed)..
for alarms other than getting a good stealthy install.. I'd look into Clifford, DEI/Viper, Alpine, or Compustar....
I'd shy away from the small/generic brands.. my friends car which he bought used came w/ some odd brand/off brand.. and when his primary (arm/disarm ch. 1) button broke we COULD NOT find any shop that carried a replacement remote... we had to go ghetto and buy a switch from an electronic store and de-solder the old/broken switch.. and solder in a new switch outself... it was a lot of trouble to try to find a replacement remote and it was a bitch that we had to ghetto-fix the switch in order for his alarm to work.. (car was used.. owner gave him 1 remote)...
for the past 2 decades my family has used Clifford's upper models and my parents have nicer cars than I do... INSTALL is very important but I like the features, security (N/O interrupts), wireless immobilizers, coded valet, and convenience features that the Cliffords have to offer.. it had multipoint starter kills, automated headlight activation, headlight delay (to light my path after I park and exit/walk away from the car), remote start, window and sunroof closure, digital shock/impact, proximity and tilt sensors, hood, trunk, door pin switches, pager, wiper/headlight activation, keyless, ignition controlled door locks, coded valet, etc.. just to name a few...
I used a Clifford Avant Guard system IN ADDITION to being hidden and stealth (all black) wiring... I also had kill switches and also used BOTH the autolock (pedal lock) AND the club (steering wheel lock) and a hood lock... my car was stolen previously but in years w/ this setup it hasn't been stolen....

who said you can't?... it's been done on 5spds... my cousin's 91 crx Si 5spd has auto start and my friend's 99' civic Si has auto start... you just have to play with it... just make sure you never leave your car in gear though

Ask your local audio/alarm place for details. RS3 is great, if you have friends that work it Best Buy.... you can get it for $185.
i did some research a while back on this forum and another one.
The upper Clifford model was recommended by someone that installed alarms. He had a big big explanation for it. It was on a Prelude forum.
So I am either getting a clifford or lojack. Anyone know prices on Lojack alarms?

i think alrams are good only when u are in the range where u can hear the alarm go off ... but what happens when u'r not?? u'r car will still get stolen since thieves have a way to overpass the system ... so i just recently purchaesd the autolock, imo this is the best security for people who go insane when they leave they care hoping that it is still there when they get back ... just my opinion
There is one that I saw on one car that arms itself when someone touches it. Then it gives them a warning . If they touch it again then it gives them a little shock. Just enough to show them whos boss. It was on a prelude. The guy said it cost almost $1500 with install.
There's a black prelude (97+) where i work at that has that alarm.....It would make this annoying sound even when u softly touches it......and then it would go crazy if it was touched agian.... "crazy alarm."
