alpine type r speakers
RMS for these speaks are 100w, max is 300w. my question is if i used a 300/4 JL amp, would all the power harm the speakers over time? or would it just be out of this world crazy good foreveR?
how many pairs of speakers would you be running off the amp? If only one set and you have the amp bridged then probably would be too much power.
You want to use a 4 channel amp, so my question is are you running 4 channels of type R speakers or what?

You are underpowered, the JL Audio 300/4 is a 4x75W RMS into 1.5 - 4 ohms...

You are more likely to damage your speakers with an underpowered amp then an overpowered amp.

PS, it is not the underpowering that damages the speaker it is driving the underpowered amp into constant clipping that does the damage.

I have bought and sold over 200 items on ebay and every time I get something that isn't as the discription paypall gets my money back it is actualy safe . Just make shure that it says that the item is in working condition or new with a warranty . I have yet to be burned on ebay . Just dont buy anything that is refurbished or not tested . Ubid is good to they normaly have alot of kicker just stay away from a refurb . my .02cents
i got a set of type r's in my car, and im runnin the mrf-f550 amp,and they sound great with it. its 90x4 so its just a little under powered, but its alot cheaper then their digi amps for half the cost really.
i was running a set of type r components on a bridged zapco ag360 with no problems. having an amp with "too much power" is better "too little power" imo, headroom isn't a bad thing to have. just be careful when setting your gains, plus the type r's can take more than they say, the ones i had were an older model rated for 50w rms...

the mrf-f550 is around 299 and the pdx-4.100 is around 499.
if you got the money i would reccomend the pdx. its a lot smaller amp, and if you buy amps from that series you can stack them for a clean look that doesnt take up any room. but the f550 is what im running with my type r's and they sound great. more then happy with it. just take thetime to set the gains right, and you wont have any problem.

alpine PDX amps have no ***** I wouldnt doubt it if u dont notice a difference in output between your JL and the 4.100 pdx. but I can bet u it wont be as clean as ur JL.
Keep what uve got. if anything bridge the 300/4 to ur front components or if u want to spend the time actively crossover ur components and biamp them.
