Default unexpected project time, del sol content.

Ive posted my fair share of project cars on this site since being a member so, once again Im doing another one, yet this time it was a little unexpected since its the wifes car.

well my wife was involved in an accident the other day, hit and run. dude siide swiped her then dipped out, fortuntately some people stopped to serve as witnesses to the police, and luckily someone actually knew who he was so hopefully hes in jail right now. Of course it turns out he has no license or insurance. i dont even think weve had this car for 2 months yet and this happens. So got the car over to the shop for our insurance to come take a look at it, and figured hey its gonna be in the shop for a little while anyway getting the front fixed. Lets just take a bit of out of pocket money and paint the whole damn thing and do a color change, so started tearing the car down. Got the front end straightened back out after a few, was very minimal core support damage and no frame damage so that was good. new parts will be going on so the old ones came off. started blocking the car down to find the bad spots and get rid of the small stuff. The car needed a respray anyhow cause it was not in the best paint condition. i think maaco sprayed it before or something, lots of trash and sand scratches everywhere, and of course nothing was taken off the car when they did it so it just was not good. tons of little dents in the car so there was lots of blocking yesterday.ive started on the obvious stuff, Ill prime everything up, guide coat it, block it again than see whats left and do bodywork and reprime. Than i found the cancer which really pissed me off cause thats basically a whole day gone cutting it out, replacing the patch pieces and then doing bodywork, but thats what ill be using the old fenders for. Not to mention the 3 inches of bondo on it, i really cant stand it when bodyshops dont even try to do metal work, they just slap the filler on. really sucks when ya find out later. This is the start of it, day 1. needs a good amount of work but less than other cars ive fixed, ill lower it a bit on some decent stuff and then swap out the mesh wheels for something else, Im thinking rpf1's but since its the wifes car she gets to make the decisions on it. Unfortunately im not going to be able to two tone it cause she wants it all one color(thats sort of my trademark). The car runs great and drives nice and since this is her daily cant modify it too much, is a great little car but still need it to be reliable, but now itll look super clean. anyone hits this car after its painted better have some ****ing insurance.

ill update this thread continutally till its done.

YIKES !! found the death !

Represent bitches.

were located in Virginia Beach, VA. shop number is 757-301-8490 if anyone is in our area and looking to get quality work done. The shop owner is Joey and hes the best damn painter ive ever seen, my name is Rick and im a painter and bodyman, and we got Mike as the best all around bodyshop man in the biz, well, Im a little biased. Its just the 3 of us and were all 27 years old, been doing this for quite sometime and are well known for quality work.

shameless plug, I know, but making sure were known out there is sort of my job.

got the rust cut off on one of the parts of the panel today, cut the other and welded it in so that takes care of that.

sprayed a bunch of stuff yesterday, bumpers, handles, mirrors, rear panel piece, side flare thingy's but forgot my camera.

sprayed the car and top this morning.

cleared:

had to freshen up the rear taillights cause they were hurting so hit em with a few coats of clear.

a little bakeage to get this thing cured so i could start assembling later in the day.

the bottom side of the bumper in that lip area was melted, so i decided to grind it down and black it out, GOT MY TWO TONE BITCHES, HA. i stone coated it than sprayed it black.

now thats a nice set of tailights....

Noice. Ive heard good **** about that body/paint shop. Car came out great

What was done to the taillights before you hit them with clear? Did you sand/polish or anything like that beforehand? Or just cleaned and then cleared. Im interested in that, never really seen it done (maybe i havent seen anough)

well we do great work and strive for quality and customer satsifaction to try and stay on the top of the list for people.give us a shout if you need anything

for tailights.clean them, 320 than 500 on the soft pad d/a. Than of course clean prior to clearing. That plastic is a very durable plastic so hitting it with 320 is perfectly fine as it wont leave massive scratches, but finishing with 500 on the plastic ensures that the clear can fill the scratches and still have a coarse enough surface to adhere too. 2 good coats of clear and your straight. Good clear is a must as most peoples lights fade cause of crappy coatings from tjhe factory, we have dupont cromasystem in our shop and the cromaclear is enhanced with a u.v protectant, guaranteed from dupont not to fade, yellow or crack for life. So i most likely will never have to do this again. Top quality materials cost alot, but totally worth it if you want your car to look great for a long time.
