SHG_Felliphe's EG Hatch Build Thread
Thanks guys.
Update:
Before heading to vacation I ordered a Spoon N1 silencer from ICB. It was going to take 5 weeks to get here from Japan but it wasn't a problem. Then the shipment came in but the silencer was not inside
Luckily for me I knew of someone selling one so I got a refund and bought his which was also new and had only been test fitted

Ha no not at all IMO. It is very common for me to be cruising at 2,5k-3,5k and I will often wind it out to 5 or even 6,5k to get up to speed on a highway/Rt so with the silencer I am able to do that without appearing to be speeding which will not attract cops. I was cruising on the highway last year and a state trooper was stopped in the breakdown lane and when I passed by he pulled me over and said that my car shouldn't sound like a jet plane just flew by
.
With the silencer on now, it is even quieter than my other silencers (newer gen silencer) and has drastically cut down on noise. It is almost silent just cruising which is great IMO as I don't get drone, yet when I get the revs going it sounds good and I can hear the engine itself rather than the exhaust. Even if I didn't want to use it for the street, I would still use it for long highway trips. A good friend once said that a car should be built for the driver and I agree with that fully. Its about personal taste. I think the N1 sounds fantastic without the silencer but I don't want it to affect my hearing. I can drive around comfortably and without having sensitive ears. Plus to me it isn't a particularly quick car which I'm sure everyone here will agree, so therefore it shouldn't be louder than it has to be. The EG has very little sound deadening so I take that into account. Inside the cabin it gets loud (most magazines complained about road noise when this car was reviewed back in its hay day) and if the exhaust is loud, then the stereo has to be loud or I have to raise my voice to talk.
I am taking a "freak in the sheets, lady in the streets" approach with this car so a silencer for daily duty and sans silencer for track use is what I desire. I want it to be as comfortable of a daily as possible with the right mixture of sacrifices to performance and also vice versa. Its about the balance. So now I don't have to control noise and can open it up as I want. The last thing to keep in mind is that this is just a stock engine really, it will only get louder from here on with a swap and exhaust work so the silencer will come in handy in the future also.
Updates very soon.

Yeah basically. Who knows maybe I'll go with one in the future but for now the N1 is sticking around. I just love how it looks and it sounds nice.
Haha something like that.

Update:
A few weeks ago I borrowed Mike's toe plates and bought 2 auto locking measuring tapes along with some linoleum tiles to add height to the floor so that I could get it to be level. I set the front toe to 0 and but didn't have time to do the rears although it shouldn't be too bad.
After I installed the new header, the rear heatshield started to have contact with the exhaust so on RPMs near idle it would rattle and sounded pretty ghetto. So I had some time to deal with it today and got underneath to remove it. 2 bolts came off ok and the other 2 were so crusty they automatically rounded off so I had to pull the exhaust from the hangers to get access to cut it with a wire wheel. Turns out I didn't even need to. The heatshield was so rusty that I just bent it till it cracked off. I have to say, I have my work cut out when I start cleaning up my undercarriage but thats how it is with a northeast car.

I have also been playing with my cluster lighting. I took the bulbs out and hit them with a couple of coats of Valspar glass paint in red. I went this method because I figure the "amber" bulbs were a light orange so a little bit of red should tie in nicely and it did. Much better than the natural "amber" of the bulbs which just looks like light orange. The glass paint is nice because it is made to let light filter through so the brightness hardly went down at all. Since those bulbs are a little oversized it works out.

Now it's not perfect but its the best setup I've had yet. BMWs have the best lighting and to me doesn't get better than that. Until my setup is that nice I won't be done haha. I am satisfied for now but will continue to try out other ideas.
The middle bulb to the left is a bit light so I will spray it once more to match the others but all in all, it looks great in person.
My phone's camera is not working anymore which is why I haven't really posted pictures but I'll be fixing it sometime.
Lastly, I wanted to have less lean on the seat so I tried to lower the front setting to 1 from setting 2 but it was not possible because the seat hits the rail's locking bar. So I had to just raise the rear setting from 1 to 2 to get the desired lean. It means sitting a little higher but straighter also.
Thanks man, not as sweet as I'd like it to be though, I need to step it up big time!
Car is ok man, I just can't wait for the roads to clear up so that I can have my N+ back on but here is your fix haha.
Update:
I installed my OEM front strut bar a few weeks ago after picking up some studs and nuts for it. Looks nice in the bay for sure. I wish I had a camera to post pictures right about now...
Picked up a few parts recently too. Spoon lug nuts from EasyE since he went with Buddy Clubs to match his new wheels.

I had test fitted them a while back on the Weds and they looked much better than my Rays lug nuts so I scooped them up to match the blue lettering on the Weds.

Also picked up a Spoon magnetic drain plug set from Mike who gifted it to me.
I was in need of a new oil pan plug so this came in handy. I also have new washers laying around from when I placed that massive Honda order for my engine rebuild.
The last pickup was a set of Russell stainless steel braided teflon brake lines from Summit. They are of very good quality and washers for the banjo fittings were also included.
I went ahead and installed them on Thursday and it was a learning experience haha. Banged up my hands pretty good but you live to fight another day. Time to invest in some gloves...
So I went to bleed them and when I got to the front right caliper, the bleeder screw wouldn't tighten back up. The threads were messed up so I went ahead and bought a reman from the parts store and threw that on.
EasyE came over to help me bleed them (thanks!!) then once I got it back down and started up I noticed the timing belt was loose. I had thought that the timing was wrong so I adjusted it but the tensioner spring wasn't pulling enough so thats why it was loose. So I took out the timing cover and looked at the timing again and turns out I was it was right in the first place so I set it back. It was only 1 tooth off from the adjustment but glad that I caught it. Just had one of those moments.
Its because I was looking at the wrong mark on the timing cover which made me think it was wrong but it wasn't. I had a new spare tensioner spring so I threw that on and it is nice and tight now.
I went for a drive and my right rear caliper is sticking so I'm going to consider my options here. I have been planning brake upgrades for a couple of months now and I might have to do them sooner than I thought as the rotors are pretty worn down, the bleeder screws are beat up and now a sticking caliper.
I would love to go with ITR 11'' brakes but there are so many parts involved that I'm not sure its cost effective at this point. Maybe rebuild the 3 calipers or get remans, maybe get GSR brakes, who knows.
As for the pedal feel, its hard to really say, my brakes are kind of soft which could be air in the system but it could also just be the worn rotors.
Thanks for reading!

love the wheels man the lugs look great too as for the brake issue, id just do a gsr full swap and while your under there upgrade your bushings to hardrace, thats my plan on my hatch keep up the good work dude wishing the snow would finally quit
Love the way those Spoon lugs match the blue on the Weds.
The Weds also have 4x114 lug pattern right? I vote for 4x114 ITR conversion. Those can usually be had for about the same price it would be for a GSR swap. Just my .02.
Keep up the good work man!

. I'm thinking towards the end of the year I will park the EG for the winter and re do the suspension but thats on the optimistic side. We will see, something for next year probably.Yeah the snow needs to stop, have been wanting to detail my car for a while now but the roads only stay clean for a couple days at a time :/
Thanks

The way I see it right now, regardless I needed stainless lines so I got those. Also regardless I need rotors and pads. Which is why this could be a good time to upgrade, especially since the calipers have seen better days.
If I go with anything besides OEM calipers, I'll need a new M/C + booster + prop valve and DC2 knuckles. In that case I'm not that far from the ITR setup... Gotta crunch some numbers here.
