SHG_Felliphe's EG Hatch Build Thread
I like the support! I passed out last night lol. That Jamaican sleep sheaaa right Evan? Haha. I'll upload some pictures when I get out of class. Should be up by 1pm
Here we go... I left some pictures in another memory stick so I'll edit this later and add em in.
A few weeks ago on Sunday a few of us went with Evan to pick up his K20A2 swap and once we got back to the shop I got to work on installing my new hood release cable. I've had it since winter but never got around to installing it. I took out as well as the hood latch itself. Cleaned it up and got it put back this time with boltboys hardware. One of the old bolts broke too so one more to drill out lol. A lot of my hardware is so rusty that the heads just snap when you try to take em out. I've got about 8-10 broken so far lol. I rerouted the cable inside the bay too and its working perfect. No more resetting it every time I pop the hood.
The next day I went back to install my header and the bucket seat

Sprayed simple green to try to clean it a bit but it didnt do much.

Stupid header was 2 inches short like someone mentioned that it might. Had to pull the exhaust forward and bolt it up. Then the axleback was touching the chassis so it was vibrating the car when near idle and whatnot.

Once that was done I started to tackle the seat, first remove all 4 bolts that holds the stock seat. 2 in front of it and 2 behind.

Seat out, I was surprised by how heavy it was. Saving some pounds here for sure.

Comparison

Remove this bolt to carry the buckle over to the new seat.

All vacuumed up ready to go.

Buddy Club seat rail in. It needed 3 washers to be put in, the bolts were just threading though the holes
The rail also didn't include the bolts that go in the seat but maybe seats come with them when you buy them new. I was expecting bolt on quality but putting 3 washers isn't that big a deal, they should of at least came with instructions though.
Seat installed, credits to Evan on this one, I would of had a hard time figuring it out myself

Overall the seat feels really good, nice and snug and its pretty comfortable. After having it for a few weeks I still like it. Looking forward to taking some turns at the track or auto-x to really feel the seat hold me in place bc I have yet to feel my legs move left or right
Tubed/sleeved the coolant overflow hose lol!

Got off my *** and spent an hour stripping the VC fully.

Petroleum jelly on the parts where I didn't want paint such as the H logo and HONDA and around where the bolts go.

I'll take a pic of the VC installed too. Not entirely sure why but its leaking oil. There will be oil on the bay. I'm hoping I can stop it completely. So annoying!

I mean I know what's causing it, just don't know the fix lol.
Two of these. Previous owner had overtighned the bolts and so there's 2 bolts that can't thread in. It was fine before though, I even took it out to make sure everything was seated right.

With that no name head does the collector gasket fit up correctly? I bought one and the fit was horrible. I heard some of those things are hit or miss when it comes to quality.
I went over a manhole and it the o2 bung plug bolt got loose and came out. Luckily I still had the spare so I put that on yesterday. Sounds good now and the axleback vibration is almost nonexistent. For 50 bucks though you can't go wrong with that header lol.
Threw on my circuit hero sticker.
The collector gasket fit no problem. I'm not exactly sure how it's supposed to fit but it seemed to be on point. The header itself is of great quality. I picked up some torque over my old header. It was the same header but this one was slightly redesigned so the hardware is better, the welds are pretty clean and the material used is good too. Fitment was great too except it was a bit too short where it meets the cat. Its the same size as my old header.

what you thinking about getting next for this hatchy?
a fellow new englander. im from southern Nh. nice hatch its looking good. get together and take some pics down there. that seat will be fun i got a bride and i love corners even more now.
Word, they make good stuff. Right now I'm sort of at a standstill, I quit my job to go to school so now that I know how much time I need for hw and stuff I can start the hunt. A buddy of mine is going to hook me up with a job soon
For now I'm going to get a Sylvannia headlight bulb today just so that I can pass inspection. 1 of my low is blown. I wanted to get the Phillips X-treme power for $50 bills for I'll leave that for another time. Probably when I get JDM headlights. Im not sure if they use the same bulb though. I also put my plate back on the front to pass inspection.
After that I'm going to raise my suspension a bit, roads here are pretty shitty. Probably an inch higher, just like I was at before but I'll still be cornerweighed.
I'm going to save for a daily and then put the hatch inside the garage for the winter. Race against time right now, salt kills paint and chassis
. I'll be working on little ****. I might pull the motor or do some fun stuff this winter just until I can afford nice parts again and go hard next year
Most likely the first thing I'll be doing though is changing the tranny fluid
Thanks man yeah, bucket seats are fun

That's part of hooking up an older car. All that maintenance that has been skipped starts becoming mandatory for the car to run. My brakes for example were shot to ****, the front calipers weren't even working, there was rust on the rotors
. The shocks were blown, the tires were close to bald and rust was starting to spread. It is what it is, pretty much you get a brand new EG at one point. Can't wait till I make enough money to afford parts consistently

Heres the pictures that I didn't post before.
Heat gun to do the heat shrink tubing! Works excellent, gets quite hot.
Picked this up a while ago
Made a couple of key copies as well.
My pen :-p

Fixed my exhaust leak thursday, I went over a manhole and it hit the header. While driving home I hear a bolt drop and it was the secondary o2 bung plug bolt that got spit out. Replaced it and the good thing that came out of this is that my axleback stopped vibrating at near idle
Also got these bulbs for now. Headlights are brightness now. Just need to adjust them since its been off.
Had to take the bumper off to go up my ramps, oem jack sucks so had to use the ramps. Bumper doesn't clear it

Spent 5 hrs working on it today. Did some wiring work and removed some wires from the bay that as well. After I got everything put back together I turned on the car but it stayed at around 2,500rpm even after it was up to temp. So I turned it off, adjusted the idle air screw on the TB all the way in, turned the car back on and voila it was back to a very stable 1,000rpm idle. I have a feeling something is up with it. I need to try to clean my FITV, never really got around to doing that. (Bolts are pretty seized)
I also hear an air leak noise from behind the motor by the intake manifold. I wasn't able to pinpoint where it is since it was dark but maybe if that leak was fixed my idle would be at 500-800? More to come :-)
Oh I also forgot to post a pic of my rail.
