SHG_Felliphe's EG Hatch Build Thread
This Wednesday me and SHG_EasyE tackled the brakes. He did most of the work though ahha. The old brakes were really shot. All sides had lots of grooves from the caliper not applying even pressure. The rear pads were terrible and the fronts actually had a lot of meat left. That would be because the rears were seized quite good whereas the fronts were seized too but the inner sides of the rotors were almost untouched! The front calipers were barely working. There was rust build up on the inner side of the rotors haha.
Turns out the new front right caliper had a stripped bleeder screw and it wouldn't tighten so it kept leaking. Then Evan had to tap it and re thread it. We ended up using the bleeder screw from the old caliper bc it was a tiny bit bigger and we were able to bleed the brakes and be on our way.
Car stops pretty good now, at first the brakes only worked with the pedal down almost all the way but now its broken in a bit and it feels good. I can easily lock the tires if I want to. These pads have a lifetime warranty too which is nice.
Also threw in a new lug in the right rear, no longer 3 luggin it :-)
Big thanks to Evan on this one, really coming through! Thanks for the new lug nuts all around doggie!
The alignment and corner weight is going to be done tomorrow

haha yeah right jk, just test fitted those. I wish they were mine!
Finally just a shot of the car as of today

Same!
Yeah I did, baddd. Those dimples are wear indicators. When the rotor surface is even with the bottom of the hole, it's time to get new rotors. Cool isn't it?
Looking even better now that it's tucking tire! EasyE and I got the alignment done after we dropped It a bit. It got corner weighed so I've got a cross weight of 49% which means the car is very neutral. I didn't want the car to sit too uneven. The fronts had a lot of toe in but now they're straight. Pictures later! Thanks

I'm on a good combo here, lets not stop!
Thought I'd tackle my valve cover, the paint was chipping and it just wasn't clean enough.
Bolts out.

Head is in really good shape, only thing I noticed is that one of the threads were broken off, I'm pretty sure it was because it was tightened a bit too hard and it cracked it. Reason I know this is because after I put back the valve cover I managed to do the same to the other thread
So now its 2 broken threads. Its not a huge deal but still shitty. Look to the right and you can see it. The second one isnt picture because it happened after I put it back.
This is what I started with.

Crappy green primer coming off.

Wetsand is a must.

This is where I stopped at, it got late, I'll finish it this week.

Also removed my front license plate, I can get away with not having one hopefully.

haha lmao jk
. I hate trees
