Default My turn for a build thread...just something small

I blew my head gasket in my 90 crx si...so i decided to put a y8 head on it..i picked up the head from my buddy for 60 bux..he doesnt know much about cars so he didnt know how much it should cost . It came with the IM, TB, fuel rail, injectors, aem cam gear, and he said something about a cam..im not sure about that though. Here is my Crx before i started working on it.

The new parts.

The way that headgasket looks they think im driving a v6 lol..i have to return it

In the process of working on it tonight..the first night of work...This is the first time ive done a head swap...it doesnt sound like its ganna be that hard but i just dont want to [freak] anything up ..i should be getting a lot more parts in within the next week or so.

Thats it for tonight..more in the morning

They are somewhat interchangable.
First check to see if the y8 IM has the manual trans idle valve or the auto one (manual one will be on back of IM, auto on will be on bottom of throttle body.
If its the manual one then your good to go for the most part, you have to use you stock si injectors if you use the y8 IM, the y8 ones work differently.

do a search for the y8 swap theres some good write ups on it.

It will be easier to use your A6 manifold, but the Y8 manifold is better. Also unless you bought a conversion harness and you have the distributor, ECU, etc to convert it to OBD1 then it will be much easier to stay OBD0. annnnd, if you are staying OBD0 how are you planning on running Vtec?

so got some progress...took my new head apart and sent it off to get cleaned up and decked...now im stuck on a road bump and cant get my crank pully bolt off...ive broke 2 sockets 3 extenders and a wench trying to get this bolt off...and i cant figure out how to get it off..

i do have some questions about timing belts and tensioners, and water pumps...with my d16a6 block..i can run my stock tensioner, stock water pump, and a d16y8 timing belt??? i saw somebody talking about having to use a d15b7(not sure if thats right) timing belt maybe?

should i use this y8 intake with my Si injectors or use my a6 intake mani???

crank pulley, use an impact gun. as for manifolds, use the y8 if possible cuz its got better flow.

fios is the fastest internet out right now. and use a breaker car and a big flat head to hold the flywheel. and it will come off with ease thats how i did mine.

look in the FAQ for help getting off the crank pulley if u dont want to use an impact

I would use an impact gun, its the easy way. it it wont just, GO... try this
put a socket on it, with an extension (1/2 inch of course)
give a couple good bash's to the end of the extension with a decent hammer. you are trying to loosen up the threads.

after that, switch over to your impact, make sure your compressor is fully charged, and do short bursts of impact gun. dont just hold it.

it will go. some tapping fluid might help

i just had a weird idea? freeze the bolt with a can of compressed computer air upside down, it would snrink the bolt a bit then zip it off with the impact? haha who knows but good luck (either way the above method is tried and true)

I just went thru this with my B18A1, I actually put the block under my EF front end and lowered the car onto the block and wedged a block of wood where the crank spins near the wall of the block and then used a breaker bar. I coudl't freakin believe how hard it was but it came off!

yea its driving me crazying..i tryed the impact gun in short bursts...still didnt work..im ganna try lowing the car onto a brick with a wrench attactched to the bolt and so if that works...i dk what going on..anyways

Update...the new y8 is at the machine shop getting all seals and valves replaced...it is also being decked .020. thats ganna cause my compression to be where..in the mid 11's i think..so deff not a good motor for boost like i would love..but i guess i could do a all motor build with it...and i still dont know how im ganna wire up vtec...i picked up my new vtec controller but dont have a wiring diagram...does anybody know how to wire one of these up...?

That thing that looks like a computer mouse, just cut it off with wire cutters and then run the wires to your vtec solinoid and the other ones to ground.

Update...going for a huge change in plans here....so ive decided to say [freak] this mini-me swap..im just ganna do the full z6 swap...so i got a block from a z6 that has a micro polished crankshaft. i wanted to go ahead and get some eagle rods and vitara pistons so i can get ready for boost but i didnt think it would run very well at all with that low of compression..so im sticking with stock internals..

I have my y8 head in the shop. its being milled .02 down to make sure its flat...reseated all the valves and new seals and springs...i bought a zex v-tec street cam...it will be pretty nice...i have a stage 2 exedy clutch and an eight pound flywheel...the car is going to be pretty quick...then the Td04 is soon to come..will have pictures of progress soon
