Default My 98 GSR

So I discided to start a diary of my car, progress, setbacks, etc.
I am a visual person btw, I need to see photos, can't read text forever on computer.

Today my plan was to take off my tranny (synchros need to be replaced).
Here is what happened, I had trouble getting the driver side shaft out, used a prybar and everything, still not coming out. I ended up droping the tranny with the shaft still in and pulling out later on. Took me some serious mojo to get this B(%*# out, I knew why it was stuck, the damn snapring went in sideways 3 yrs ago.

you can see the tip of the shaft is a bit jacked up

tranny a bit dirty but will be rebuilt tomorrow.

parts that came off, most of the anyway.

Very pro...as you can see

well... the grill also keeps major stuff from bashing the IC, for longer life, but you're right, cops are a major reason.
Anywhos here is what happened today. We took the tranny appart, and my mech said it was the cleanest shell he has seen. The synchros were very clean ( as in undamaged), the sleeves were fine too. You could see some wear but nothing major, like missing teeth, rounded edges etc, things shifted quite smooth.
The bad part about all this is that we found no major reason for my 3rd geer to grind This is not good, I am thinking about just buying a full rebuild kit now ~$450. Here are some of the pics from today.

Bad pick here, after 7 beers.

Front shocks replaced.

Under the fender O_o

Today was a rough day I must say . I took the tranny appart again and took the 3rd/4th shaft to the acura dealer, spoke to one of the old timers. This guy was awsome, he showed me why my synchros were not functioning properly even though they looked fine from inside/out. The teeth are sharp on synchro, synchro sleeves and gears. The springs are round and everything seems to shift smooth, BUT why do my gears grind??
The answer to this question is quite simple...
The surface of the gear where the brass piece sits on should not be polished smooth, but rather "honed" like surface.
He used the valve grinding compound one the gear surface, placed the brass synchro on the gear and meshed them together(twisting like motion). Cleaned the surface and lube it.
This process will cause the synchro to catch the gear surface, once the shifting process begins; therefore, the gear will stop moving and shifting will be smooth once again : )
I did this to 3rd and 4th synchros.
After I put the trany back together, it was time to merry her back with the engine.
After 1 hours everything was together, torqued, started installed, connectors, etc.
I then realized that the throwout-bearing was not on the fork, but in my toolbox .
So tonight I wasted 1 hour, but its ok, il finish it tomorrow.
The best part about all this is that it cost me ~ 50$ all together for some tools, sealand, etc.
Ofcourse I cannot predict and be 100% possitive that this will resolve all my problems, but who knows.
I will post more info tomorrow, see how car runs with honda MTF(manual transmission fulid)

your welcome....what fuel management system are you using for your current setup....you can just tune it to save on gas and save the headache of putting everything back the way it was and yes you do have to use ur LS ecu if your putting your LS head back on.

Tranny installed today, installed my kyb shocks.
Took her out for a run, shifts smooth into all gears, and NO MORE GRINDING @ 3k rpm lol.
Also no more fenders rubbing, I even tried "drifting" and nothing rubbing, car handles awsome. All 4 shocks are set at 4 right now, I am thinking about setting rear @ 3. No pics today sorry, was very busy, have a ton of homework to do.
