2000 Civic Coupe Build
Whats up guys. This is my first build and I've still got a long way to go on it. I'm gonna give you a bit of a back ground on it and what my plan is for this car.
Right now I have a 2000 Civic EX Coupe. Vogue Silver in color.
Right now it's got the stock D16Y8 in it with some basic bolt on's. Password JDM intake and an Apexi Cat Back Exhaust. The motor and trans are the original motor and have roughly 250k miles on it. That will go up because its my DD. This motor and trans runs like a dream. Right now its got a black hood and black bumper (primer black) because it was in a minor front end collision.
The plan:
Exterior - The entire exterior will go through an SI conversion. The only thing it wont have is the SI badging because I'm weird about it not being a true SI. The car's paint will be professionally re done, all dents and scratches (all real minor) will be fixed. The head lights will be replaced with the Type R style black headlights and the tail lights will be replaced with the smoked/clear head lights and genuine OEM clear fog lights installed.
Interior - I haven't made any definite decisions on the interior quite yet but so far the plan is to replace the carpeting with either stock or some kind of black carpeting. The roof lining will more than likely be replaced, there are a few burn marks and part of it hangs slightly. The seats will more than likely be replaced with either Leather GSR seats or re upholstered Leather SI seats (Front and Back). I'm either gonna replace the steering wheel with an S2000 steering wheel (still haven't quite figured out the wiring yet to keep cruise control and air bag) or the 03 SI steering wheel. I'll have updates for the interior as the build progresses.
Engine - Now for the important part... The end goal for this car will for it to be a boosted B16A2 swap. Now I don't have the specifics on the turbo yet because the boosting portion of this build wont happen till way later but I do know I will be running stock internals. I have a friend of mine who has a B16A2 he's pulling out of his EM1. I'll be buying the full swap off him and doing a straight swap. I'll run it with the B16 NA for awhile, save up for the turbo while doing research on what turbo to run and all the other specifics and finally instal.
Wheels - As of right now, I'm in love with the ROTA Circuit 10 Bronze wheels.
Suspension - I haven't made any decisions yet whether I'm gonna run on Coilovers or springs. But I'm leaning in the spring direction. Also the rear drums will be converted to disc breaks.
Alright so that's the plan. I know there's not a whole lot definite in it but it'll all start coming together as the build progresses.
What I've got now:
Right now most of what I've got are exterior parts for the SI conversion. All parts are genuine OEM and ordered either through the Honda Estore or from the dealer directly.
SI front lip (Starlight Pearl Black)
SI Grill/Molding (Starlight Pearl Black)
SI wing (Electron Blue Pearl because I bought it off a guy with a EBP EM1)
SI bumper (I know the bumpers are the same but the bumper I have now has a bad scuff and one of the bolt holes that connects the bumper to the fender is broken)
Type R style Black Headlights
Smoked/Clear Tail lights
DOHC VTEC decals (Black)
All will be painted Vogue Silver. All the pictures of this car and all the parts I have are below. I know there's nothing crazy exciting about this build but should be fun. If anyone has some advice or ideas for me I'm all ears. Otherwise, thanks for following and I'll keep you all updated on how everything is going.

I won't be taking car of the minor dents and scratches yet. for now it's just the hood, bumper, lip, grill, wing and the head lights and tail lights will be installed aswell
Alright... car is back from paint and I just installed the tail lights and detailed the car all day.. if anyone is in the Columbus area, check out bakers auto.. if you want the phone number or any other details, let me know.. these guys are incredible and I couldn't be happier with the job they did painting these parts and the installation.. I'll keep you updated as more comes with the build! thanks for lookin..

Alright so this weekend did some small maintenance to the civic.. alternator, batter and vtec spool valve gasket replacement. also installed some fogs and hids on all four.. and for the biggest part of this update, the B16 will be going in a few days after Christmas.. needless to say I'm stoked. I'm not sure there will be any need for any more updates till then so hopefully the next time I post it will be of the swap.. thanks guys.
I'm glad you got the oem lip and grill, IMO, you should sell your aftermarket headlights and taillights. the oem ones are a lot cleaner..its just a suggestion, it's your car, so you can do whatever you like..
here's some examples

I'm in love with the head lights and tail lights.. lol you're not the first person to give that suggestion. I'm the first one to hate dumb looking after market lights but I think these are conservative enough that they still look good. at least to me they do. as far as the OEM lip and grill, I wouldn't think to go anything but OEM. anyway, thanks for the post and input! should be getting the B16 in this thing roughly 2-3 weeks from now. as you can see from the picture, I'm gettin anxious! thanks again guys.
I dont wanna add to the "dont do that" camp, but I have to:
Do NOT use that decal. I'm not saying you need OEM decals, but at least get some that look original. Those look bad, I mean bad.
Heres an $8 non-OEM set that look good.

There's a big difference from the one you have.

As far as the lights, I could take em or leave em, but for EK headlights, I have always done the blackhousing mod to OEM lights. Not because OEM, but because cheapest since you already own the lights. LOL.
Other than that good luck, and always good to see a not hatchback.

I'll look into that decal you posted and probably get them and compare them in person since they're cheap.. but I gotta be honest I'm not see the difference. and you can't get anything but white if you go OEM and I want black. can you explain what looks so bad about this set that I'm not seeing? I payed $8 for these as well lol they sound and look extremely similar..
Alright so it's been a little while since I've posted and ALOT has happened since so I'll take you from the top.
On Monday the 23rd, my D16 blew.. I knew it would happen and that it was only a matter of time.. I had slight rod knock since thanksgiving and the bearing finally gave way. so needless to say, this expedited the swap process.. a quick call to Tripple A and two of my buddies who would be helping me doing the swap and the plan was set into motion.
on the 29th at about 7:30 in the morning the swap began.. first things first was to yank the busted D16. this took us roughly 2 hours to accomplish.. once the D was pulled, I prepped my engine bay while my buddies got to work on the top end of the EM1 I was taking the motor out of.
I finished up my bay and joined in on putting my buddies ride. put it up on the lift took apart the bottom end. with everything free, the B came out and both cars were engineless..
after lunch, we loaded my buddies car onto the trailer and started workin on gettin the B into the car. we started the install process roughly around 5 and it took us till about 9:30 when it was all said and done after we double, triple checked everything was hooked up right, new oil and coolant in. it was ready to start. started up without a hick up no problem. everything went perfectly. test drove the car and topped the day off with puttin the hood back on and the DOHC VTEC decals.. I've been driving this car around for about a week now and could not be happier..
right now, here's all the car has done:
Full B16A2 engine swap
Injen short ram intake
Full HKS hi power exhaust and headers
Car is still riding on the stock suspension
Winter tires (hence the steel wheels)
the plan for the summer will be to do a rear break conversion to disks, after market suspension (TBD on brand) and the goal is to buy a set of new or lightly used ROTA Circuit 10 Bronze wheels. will also be planning out what route to take in terms of running a turbo (maybe complete by fall?).
anyways, that's all I have for now. thanks for lookin and will continue to provide updates as they come. enjoy the pictures of the swap.

Okay so it's been roughly 1200 miles since the swap and I've loved every single mile. nothing big to report. just bought some interior parts off of someone who is parting out a Black EM1 for a really good price. I bought his ceiling liner (mine is discolored, and has a few burn parks and sags in certain places), his moon roof visor (the top of mine is flaking and also very discolored and worn), and finally his windshield visors/mirrors (mine have burn marks and very worn on the edges). these probably won't go in till the spring when I do the first big detail on the car but they seemed to nice and too good a price to pass up. there's not a whole lot that needs done to the interior of this car other than that.. still need new seats (possibly buying my buddies seats out of his si that are re upholstered with leather), and a steering wheel. I'm thinkin I'm gonna try for the S2k or 03 si steering wheel. anyways, that's all I have for now. thanks for looking.
Alright so I found an S2000 steering wheel (AP1) that I liked and for a good price. it arrived this week and I had some time last night to get it installed. as everyone already knows, the AP1 is a straight plug and play for the air bag, but the cruise control is another story. well I had to have cruise control.. so with a lot of help from my buddy, we got it to work.. I've only seen a hand full of people do it but I figured I'll give it a try.
Once we got the civic steering wheel off, and the cruise control module disassembled from the wheel, we removed the yellow connector on the circuit board. now this connector is soldered to the board so you'll need desoldering braid. if you don't have that, heating up all three solder beads at the same time and pulling it out will work just fine.
once we did that, we got to work on the S2000 harness and setting up to make it work with this yellow connector. on the S2000 harness, there is a gray connector. we removed the wires from this connector and cut the silver contacts at the end off.. now this is where that yellow connector that we removed from the circuit board of the civics cruise control module will go. on the yellow connector, there are 4 pins (one is a dud and not used for anything). we took the three functional pins and inserted them into the newly cut wires off the S2000 harness, put small beads of solder for good measure, and re inserted the pins into the yellow connector. after a good tight shrink wrap, we were finished with our custom plug and play harness for the S2000 wheel into the civic. from there, the reassembly was fairly simple. see the pictures below of the harness and putting the wheel together.
I apologize if this is hard to follow. hopefully the pictures will help make sense of it. anyways, cruise control works no problem and I love the new feel of the S2000 steering wheel. I'll provide more updates shortly. thanks for looking and enjoy!
