I was replacing my valve stem seals and everything was going fine until i found the bi**h of the bunch. My boot pliers couldnt get it out and to cut to the chase the valve guide got a few scratches on the end. I cleaned it up and filed any burrs on the inside and outside of the valve guide. I placed the valve back in and moved it back and forth but didnt feel any drag or scratching.

Im open to hear some been there, done that input.

 

a few scratches arent hurting anything, either inside or out, but make sure your guide isnt out of spec, "moving it back and forth" isnt too specific and could be the reason your seals werent sealing.

A few scratches won't hurt. I have found a heat gun works great to help soften and remove stubborn old valve seals.
